Verdi Requiem ‣ Stignani, Caniglia, Gigli: best 'Liber Scriptus' ever! • Quid sum miser [REMASTERED]

Ebe Stignani, in my opinion the best reference for the mezzo part ever recorded, Maria Caniglia and Beniamino Gigli sing the "Liber Scriptus" and "Quid sum miser" in this amazing recording conducted by Tullio Serafin (1937). I have yet to listen to another more intense, even scary in the best sense of the word, and technically flawless "Liber Scriptus".

This is my personal favorite, as well. Much of what Stignani recorded remains peerless!

Fabbalous Stignani… Huge velvety and perfect technique. Would nowadays be force into dramatic soprano roles.

......in realtà come timbro è sempre stata un soprano. Talvolta più chiara delle sue stesse colleghe con cui cantava.

Stignani had one of the greatest voices of all time, but she WAS, in fact, a soprano. Barbieri, Barbro, Dominguez, Madeira, Amparan, Gorr, etc were real mezzos, as in the voice type and not merely woman who sings certain roles, if that's what you're looking for.

You are absolutely right about the "scary" factor in this recording which I think is absolutely true to Verdi's vision.
