question, if I would like to format an encrypt external drive, can I just format it before mounting it with veracrypt? or do I need to decrypt the drive first before formatting it?

Hi Sir...hope you are doing well I've a question if I've hidden and outer voulme both and i want to decrypt the drive now so for normal encrytion mode, a warning appears that if you don't have hidden volume then proceed otherwise cancel so my question is that I've hidden volume as well so if i proceed to decrypt by choosing the option "i don't have hidden volume.proceed" then hidden volume will also be decrypted or just outer volume will be decrypted؟ or after doing decryption by using this option , hidden volume can be accessible or not؟ Waiting for your response it's urgent

Hi Mahi, the outer password will mount the outer volume and hidden will do the hidden volume. I haven't seen a warning like that but you can create a backup copy of your Veracrypt container to be safe.

@@KMDTech Thanks Sir for your response but I think so you didn't get my question so I'll elaborate I've 500Gb external hard drive in which I've created normal as well as hidden volume now I want to decrypt the whole drive but when I try to decrypt the hidden volume notification appears that "Veracrypt can not in-place decrypt a hidden Veracrypt volume" and when I try to decrypt normal volume then notification appears that " if the volume contains a hidden volume but you do not mind losing the hidden volume, you can select proceed(the outer volume will be safely decrypted)" so my question is if I decrypt the normal volume then hidden volume will also b decrypted mean to say It will not cause any harm to my external drive؟ I hope you will understand my question now waiting for your response

Now that supercomputers exist in the world then would it be possible for the devices to decrypt veracrypt containers? Governments and mega-corporations could easily afford to purchase or rent these supercomputers so it is believable to an extent.

Thanks! Yep, the time it takes to encrypt will also depend on the size so for demonstration purposes a smaller size was used.

Salve ho un problema con veracrypt installata su windos 11. Da inizio 2023 con veracrypt non si possono più utilizzare funzioni da amministratore e quindi non si possono più creare nuovi volumi. E' possibile risolvere questo problema? grazie
