Venus has become almost a tragic figure. She has shown so much class and grace in her career but you have to question some of her decisions. Her coaching decisions, her tactical decisions. Her decision to just let Serena soar past her with little resistance. Serena wasnt always the much better player. I would love to see Venus do an interview where she's asked these tough questions. Havent seen one yet. Serena sought a coach that improved her as a player. Venus' game never got better, her weaknesses stayed her weaknesses. She never became the all out net attacker that she should've. Her greatest success was on a grass court because she played a certain way. On other surfaces she stayed on the baseline where her inefficiencies in her strokes were exposed. Why she has allowed herself to become an afterthought is a headscratcher.

Seeing the player Stephens is now and how she manages to keep a good ranking despite losing all the time, really frustrates me because Venus has had the better career and is a better player. Shame she lost his match

Guys I had the happiest times in 2017 and the most disappointing times. I felt serena had already won 6 austrila open like come on let her have this one ...think about this for true venus fans ..serena whips venus ass now .but she doesnt do it to others on the final now. I don't think sersena would have all those wins if it wasn't venus I feel she knows venus diddnt have that killer instinct against her lil sister. Again venus had taken a back seat and it goes to serena bein the first to win a slam ..also when maria beat serena in 2004 wimbeldon final..it was venus who beat Maria ass in 2005 wimbeldon semi....venus plays big sista all the time .serena blessed to have venus. Also remember venus was playing some of her best tennis that us open if she would have beat serena in she clearly would have one the championship..but what happens serena looses in next rd and not one believes it.. ...I think she didnt want to stop serena from getting the calendar slam which serena a had never held.. Yes serena slam . but not calendar slam folks. Venus has always put serena first . I wish serena could have allowed venus to shine ...venus 2017 was her come back and retirement to go out on top Australian...wimbeldon....us open and wta finals ...yes she made the most money 2017 4million but damn it was hurt breaking for all of us who still believe in venus star William's.....could win.at this point I'll take wta win to give her 50wta championships Also if venus had beat hings semi final1999 us open ...she clesrly would have beat serena and would have changed history... Tennis fans love to make definitive statements then look like fools when they’re wrong. She was there once she can do it again. She sucks at the moment but she’s a champion. She’ll be just fine with time.

Agrewm think this was a defining point of her life where injury spurred her on. She got lucky on several points here and it was her stubborn defence which allowed her to stick through this match (plus the bizarre performance by Venus in set 1). I dnt think she will ever be this good again, and certainly not for an extended period of time.

I wish Sloane was still playing this well.

It was a promising year for US Women’s tennis with all 4 Americans in the Final 4... Venus is the only one still out there whooping these girls’ asses 🤷🏽‍♂️
