Ventnor crumble, Isle of Wight, 24 Feb 2024

A quick walk to look at some Ventnor rock falls and land slips....
☕️ Thank you for buying me a coffee, friends - it really helps and is appreciated: www.buymeacoff...
We've had a few crumbling and cracking events in the Undercliff of the Isle of Wight lately. It is, after all, Europe's largest rotational landslip, a jumbled mass of chalk and greensand debris made slippery by Gault clay and innumerable springs and seepages, all with a town plonked on top. And boy, have the recent and on-going rains lubricated the mess!

It does indeed. Unfortunately the drizzle has set in this afternoon and looks set to stay until middle of Monday. But it's almost spring ☺

St Albans Steps. It looks pretty secure. Famous last words. Nice video. It certainly is a cracking view. Stunning.

I live in Ventnor some 32 years ago didn’t have these kind of problems, then such a shame❤

Things certainly feel like they're piling up a bit. The rain fall totals have been very high

Thank you for showing us, so difficult to get to Ventnor thesedays, it was a nightmare before Christmas. They need to rebuild the Undercliff Road to Niton. Many businesses in Ventnor are suffering and it won't help property prices. Stay safe 👍👍😁

Feels like we're entering a bit of a crunch time regarding accessibility here, with multiple issues emerging at once and Island Roads not known for their rapid or logical responses. But fingers crossed things will improve for the summer...

Another lovely walk round Ventnor, looking forward to the next one. Have you walked along to Bonchurch and around that area?

Glad you liked it. Good idea: I'll try to have a walk along to Monks Bay then Bonchurch Pond during the week

@@Cornishvandweller - Yes I like the pond and the old church beyond. Nice walk through the village, then back along the seafront and eventually back to the Spyglass :-)
