It's very nice to hear a review from a location outside the UK, Europe. I have owned a Ventile garment for many years. I am about to get a new one. Take care

My jacket came from the UK. Ventile isn't well known or used in north america. I highly recommend it in cold climates

Great review; and a good test. Have done a lot of kit reviews on my channel as I’m a bit of a coat Geek. Had my eye on ventile for a while now; this may have made my mind up to get one. Top video; liked and subscribed. Keep it up 👍 ATB Mark.

thanks for the kind words. I still haven't tested ventile in prolonged rain. It's winter here so I'd have to test it in the shower lol My only concern would be overnight in the elements in heavy rain. In cold conditions I think it's fantastic. It's windproof but breathes well and sheds snow. I wear a single layer ventile shell with a wool insulating layer underneath and it's great in winter. Double layer ventile is a bit heavy as a shell. There are different weights of ventile fabric so my shell in the video is a heavy weight but single layer, and I find that more versatile to wear throughout the year....I have to do another video to explain all this!

Thanks, thats awesome! I wonder how efficient double layer ventile jackets are in terms of weight and how the breathability is in rain. The issue with goretex is that water needs to be hot enough to pass through the fabric

I have both single and double layer ventile coats. The single layer is a heavier duty fabric and still lighter than double ventile using lighter fabric. I'd prefer the single layer. For backpackers I'd recommend they also carry a poncho that can then keep your ventile from soaking through in really heavy rain, also cover your pack, double as a tarp shelter or sleeping bag bivy

@@fattonyd232 Thanks for quick and informative reply. I met some backpackers from britain that used ponchos before, but normally people in the mountains dont like using it in the wind when you hike in steep areas because of how it will act as a sail and it will be harder to secure balance. They were hiking through Hardangervidda, which is mostly flat, but I was continuing on all the way into Jotunheimen and had some pretty steep climbs on my way. I've seen some American lightweight backpackers use poncho shelters as well ... so I will definately consider it if I am going on that type of hike. Have you ever seen or heard of someone using patches of dyneema material with rubber bands on the thigh area of the pants? I was thinking about this when walking in cotton when the rain was coming in from one side for hours and hours. Those patches could easily be rotated around the leg to make some areas of the cotton breathe more, or be worn on the arms as well with virtually no cost to the weight.

Does the water leak more inn after years of use ? Or does it stay the same

That's tough to answer. I have an older double layer coat that seems to leak through the seams around the neck and might saturate a bit easier. The only factor I think that could come into play with fabric of the same thickness is whether or not it also has a DWR chemical treatment. Highly recommended for cold dry climates. In a wetter climate I'd recommend a waterproof poncho with ventile layers. US military surplus
