This is a movie reaction to my first time watching Venom, released in 2018 and directed by Ruben Fleischer! I was so interested to see how Tom Hardy would be in this type of role and it is definiely unlike anything I have seen of his so far! The banter between Eddie and Venom was hilarious! Make sure to stick around to the end of this video for my full thoughts and review and thank you so much for watching!

My favorite part is the way Venom and the other symbiotes are treated as actual aliens. It has the perfect tone of creepy and cool. But the bromance is a very close second for me too.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if they'd cut all the cgi-fest punch ups from the middle of the movie and replaced it with Eddie and Venom odd couple stuff this would probably be one of my favorite films

"It's like Venom has a million eyes..." The symbiotes have almost complete cellular control, which is how they manipulate their form, so their skin is also a sensory organ that gives them a pseudo 'spidersense'. It's why they are vulnerable to high frequency 😖

In terms of how accurate this film is to the comics it's a VERY differant origin for the character of Venom and Eddie Brock. Spider-Man is usually the first host of the Symbiote, getting it on Battleworld during the Secret Wars storyline from 1984 to 1985. Spider-Man, along with the other Marvel hero's return to Earth with Peter wearing his new Black Suit. It was later revealed to be a Symbiote with this being the storyline Spider-Man 3 (2007) pulled from involving the Symbiote and Venom. There's a few differences for example Peter visits Mister Fantastic of the Fantastic Four in the comics while in the film Peter visits Doctor Connors who confirms it's a Symbiote. Peter in both versions goes to the top of a bell tower and uses the sound to knock the Symbiote off of him leading to it handing on Eddie Brock who later returns as Venom. But for this film they remove the whole Spider-Man aspect from the origin and instead features Venom arriving on Earth in a Space Shuttle piloted by Colonel John Jonah Jameson the son of J. Jonah Jameson. This part is pulled straight out of the Spider-Man: Animated Series from the 1990s where John Jonah Jameson is sent on a mission to study an asteroid where he found a small black rock bringing it with him back to Earth. But while on route to Earth the Symbiote breaks out and starts covering Jamerson leading to them flying through New York and crashing on a bridge. Spider-Man jumps in to save them only for the Symbiote to sneak onto Peter and then events similar to the comics and Spider-Man 3 happens. They pulled more from the Lethal Protector storyline for this film which happened after these events in the comics with Eddie and Venom heading to the West Coast and becoming Anti Hero's on behalf of Peter telling Eddie to leave New York City. But again no Spider-Man in this film so they created a new origin and then pulled from the Lethal Protector comics. Venom visually is much more accurate to the comics compared to Spider-Man 3, minus him missing his White Spider-Man logo, again no Spider-Man so that makes sense. Venom is very much his own character who speaks through and to Eddie unlike Spider-Man 3 where the Symbiote had no personality of it's own. Tom is a pretty good Eddie, In the comics Eddie is depicted as this large blonde body builder, very 1990s muscle man. But I think Tom does a pretty good Eddie down on his luck. I do wish we got to see a villain like this as a villain first and then move into the Anti Hero aspect but I guess Sony wanted to push out a Venom film without Spider-Man so we got this instead.

Tom Hardy is 100% the better Eddie Brock/Venom. He also looks a lot closer to how Eddie looks in the comic books. Was very impressed with Tom in this role honestly.

21:30 - "It seems like Venom has a million eyes, can see things coming from wherever" In the comics, Venom kind of absorbed some of Peter's powers due to him being the first host, to include the Spider-Sense. (Ironically, due to their past, Venom does NOT set off Peter's Spider-Sense).

This (and ESPECIALLY the second one) are some of my favorite comic book movies! They’re intetially goofy and cheesy as a sendup to the entertainingly cheesy Venom comics of the early 90s. You can tell everyone involved loved working on this.

Venom's Family list is: Riot, Lasher, Phage, Scream, Agony, and Carnage. You seen Scream on the rabbit, the yellow one. Lasher was on Isaac, the man who died. Dr. Skirth got Agony. I'm not sure were Phage was in this, but obviously the main bad guy was Riot. There's a 90s' comic all about them, and while this wasn't the most faithful origin story for Venom, they did capture his overall goofball side I think perfectly.

As a Venom fan as far back as I am a Spiderman fan, I think this version is great. Separated from his usual hatred of Peter, Venom gets to have funny bonding moments with Eddie and jump straight to his anti-hero phase. I also enjoy the exploration of Venom's place in the hierarchy of symbiotes. I just wish they did a different design for the villain in the showdown 😅 A CGI of two dark monsters fighting in the dark could have been a lot more interesting (many of the other comic symbiotes are very colorful where Venom is black and black where he has white)

As a super hero movie, I think Venom is a bit of a train wreck, but a fun one. Tom Hardy does a lot of heavy lifting to keep this whole thing entertaining and humorous as both Eddie and Venom. It's kind of interesting that Spider-Man 3 and the Venom movies concentrate on different eras/aspects of the character. In the comics Eddie started out more or less as we see him in Spider-Man 3, a rival/foil for Peter with compromised ethics who inherited the symbiote suit from Peter and it cranked everything up to 11. In the 90s, grim and gritty anti-heroes were in, so Eddie/Venom moved out to the west coast and began his path to rehabilitation with the Venom: Lethal Protector series, which is what this rebooted movie franchise tries to run with. The awkwardness of the Sony/Marvel relationship (Marvel not really trusting that Sony 'gets' the characters they play with or what makes a good superhero movie) meant a lot of dancing around certain subjects (Schrodinger's Spider-Man in the Sony movie-verse), some creative renaming, and some reworks of Eddie's background (still a bit of a dumbass at times, but one with a much better moral alignment). Sorry, kinda rambling here, but wanted to give an idea of how this all tied into the comics and the very different screen interpretations. Basically you get to see the before and after and they cut out everything in the middle. Also, FWIW (and please don't hate me), Marvel has officially re-canonized the Netflix Marvel shows with the recent releases and shakeups in their Disney+ series production. So they're all officially part of the MCU again (not that they weren't before, just more of a grey area). Not sure if that influences your watch order at all.

Venom needs to consume phenethylamine for his mood, which is found in chcocolate or brains, he can't produce it. Venom also has a similar ability to Spiderman's Spider sense, which is why he knows when to tell Eddie to dodge (and why Spidey's sense doesn't work on him) Lastly this film shows Riot as the "leader" the Symbiotes actually have a God called Knull, hes not in the films yet but I'd love to see him on the big screen.

I couldn't care less with the stand alone movies. I'm with you, though. I do like Tom Hardy. But, even Tom Hardy was not sufficient draw for me to watch the movie. But... I'm not here for any of that. I enjoy your reactions. You reacted. I watched. Since you didn't really 'love' the movie, I'm surprised you didn't go ahead and compare the two Venoms from 3, and this movie. I actually kind of liked the creepiness of the Tobey Venom. This one was way more CGI..ey. So... Alien possession movies. Have you seen The Hidden? It's very 80's. Similar concept. Different execution. Well... thank you for the watch. I will look forward to whatever comes next. And, who knows? I might even enjoy it! I hope you have a pleasant rest of the week.

My 2 problems with this movie are: 1) No one can tell the story of Venom without having Spider-Man it the story. It doesn't feel right. 2) Sony rarely does a good superhero movie without it being a combination work with Marvel. Sony using their rights to use Marvel characters without better story and with too much and too many Executives having say in what happens in the film.

TBH. I really wanted Venom to fail when it came out 😅 Nothing against Tom Hardy or anyone else in the movie or worked on the movie, but I was really hoping Marvel would get the full rights back to Spider-Man. Alas, it made a few bucks, and Sony still has the rights. I digress, though. Tom Hardy is probably the best thing about this movie. Venom is a decent movie, but I don't get all the fuss. I still haven't seen Venom 2. This movie is definitely not as bad as the other movies Sony made based on other Spider-Man characters. Also, this is not exactly related to the movie, but I hate the song Eminem made for this movie 😂 It's so bad.

As a Venom and Spider-Man fan, this movie is kind of middle of the road for me, but it’s miles ahead of ‘Spider-Man 3’ and it’s horrible portrayal of Venom/Eddie Brock. The second movie was much more of a letdown, because Carnage is one of my favorite comic book characters, and I didn’t really like their version of the character.

Ruben Fleischer used to be a decent director Now he's just another director for hire

I've deleted my comment as I received homophobic replies and don't wish Kaiielle's younger audience to think it's okay to say that kind of stuff.

I am so sorry that you received these replies, this is not okay. If I had seen them I would have removed the individuals from the ability to leave comments on the channel in the future. Unfortunately I don't get notified of people's replies to comments that aren't mine.

@kaiielle Thank you, but you shouldn't be apologising. At the end of the day, it's just words, nobody was hurt. I just didn't want others to get upset or offended. Love you and thanks for sharing your reaction ❤️
