February in Italy is carnival time! This year we are introducing you to the best masquerades, costumes and events of Carnival 2024.
Venice is a unique city on the water, located in the north-eastern part of Italy, on more than 100 small islands in the lagoon of the Adriatic Sea. This city has no analogues in the whole world, thanks to its architecture, history and cultural heritage. The Venetian canals, along which gondolas and boats move instead of streets, create a unique atmosphere, thanks to which Venice received the name “City on the Water”.
Venice is known for its historical sites, including the majestic St. Mark's Basilica, the Doge's Palace and the Rialto Bridge. St. Mark's Cathedral is a magnificent example of Byzantine architecture, decorated with golden mosaics and impressive architectural details. The Doge's Palace, which in the past was the center of power of the Venetian Republic, amazes with its halls and works of art. The Rialto Bridge is one of the most famous and photographed bridges in the world and is an important symbol of the city.
The Venice Carnival is another famous feature of the city that attracts tourists from all over the world. Known for its colorful masks and costumes, this annual event allows you to immerse yourself in a world of fantasy and history.
In addition to its historical and cultural attractions, Venice is famous for its gastronomy. Venetian cuisine offers a wide range of seafood, risotto and traditional Italian dishes, which can be enjoyed in the many restaurants and cafes located along the canals.
Venice is filled with beautiful sights, each with its own unique history and architecture. Here are some of the most famous and delightful places to visit in this water city:
1.St. Mark's Cathedral (Basilica di San Marco) Is one of the most famous and recognizable symbols of Venice. It is a magnificent example of Byzantine architecture with rich mosaics and majestic domes.
2.Piazza San Marco Venice's main square, surrounded by impressive historical buildings including St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace.
3.Doge's Palace (Palazzo Ducale)Former residence of the rulers of Venice, this masterpiece of Gothic architecture reveals luxurious halls and works of art.
4.Rialto Bridge (Ponte di Rialto)The oldest and most famous bridge over the Grand Canal, which is an important shopping center in Venice with numerous shops and stalls.
5. Grand Canal (Canal Grande)The main waterway of Venice, lined with magnificent palaces and buildings. Traveling along the canal by gondola or vaporetto offers unforgettable views of the city.
6.Island of Murano Famous for its glass workshops, where you can see how exquisite glass products are created.
7. Burano Island Known for its brightly colored houses and lace-making skills. This place seems to have stepped out of the pages of a fairy tale book.

Sorry for the late reply. Venice is a gorgeous that has kept it’s tradition very well. Those costumes are from the Renaissance era. (In other words, they came up with Mardi Gras in the first place)

(from my home ' The City of Angels, Bangkok ') I visited so many times since 1971, coming back home from America, over stay here & missed my connecting flight in Rome. After being the licensee of the top sportswear of Italy in the 1990's, I always visited Venice every year. I loved to walk around the allies & feeding pigeons at St. Mark. I have been to lovely Venice two times. Last time in 2022 Venice Carnival, with four friends, all dressed up, my face fully masked. People stopping us to photograph, and film every few minutes. Already preparing my costume for 2025!
