Venice Beach Scuba Diving for Megalodon Teeth and Mammoth Teeth
Ғылым және технология
I recently went diving at Venice Beach in Florida for Megalodon Teeth. On this video I found several megalodon teeth, including several really nice ones. The biggest is 3 1/4 inches long and very nice. I also found lemon shark teeth, bull shark teeth, snaggletooth shark teeth, and a mako shark tooth. The unexpected bounty from these dives were wooly mammoth teeth. I got 10 in 4 days which is amazing! I also saw lots of fish.

4 days under water. that's crazy
no problem. i try to reply to all insightful, unique, or genuine comments. I googled mammoth tooth handle knives and you're right. they are extremely cool looking!
The mammoth teeth have to be in a sertain mineral zone so that when fossilised, they have epic colors. And for this reason, the knives featuring these teeth are from world class blade smiths. It would be a long wait to get your blade and a small fortune ranging anywhere from $400 to $3000. Making them more of a display piece than a beater.
That looks like a fun time! Thanks for taking us along!
this is soo awsome i really wanna go scuba diving looks like alot of fun and u find very cool stuff!
Great video, thanks for sharing!

i've been posting new videos lately. Subscribe to notifications so you'll know when they go live!
being a scuba diver, you shouldn't have any trouble if you are persistent and go to places where they can be found. venice beach FL is a popular destination for them. As are many of the black water rivers in the south eastern US. good luck!
Thanks so much. Definately going to try to go some time before the end of the summer.
any tips on how you found so many? i just went there on monday and found about 30 lemon shark but thats all. what camera are you using also?
sorry i don't live in Venice. I live in South Carolina. You can book charters down there so you can dive, though.
awesome!
megalodon teeth can be enormous, but like all living creatures, the sharks had to start as babies and grow to that size, losing teeth all the while. that's why we find them in all different sizes.
the megalodon teeth were deposited there during the Miocene when ocean levels were much higher than they are today. Much of the lower lying areas of the entire east coast, including all of Florida, were under water at that time.
Awesome
you should put a picture at the end of all your finds.
Thanks visionxray! Nice finds anyway....
only one. gators are usually scared away by boats and divers. one time i was diving at a famous location in the cooper river called the powerlines and my buddy on the boat said that a big gator was circling my bubbles the whole time I was under. When I came up he motioned for me to swim faster towards the boat. I got safely in, and then he threw a broken tooth over at a big "log" in the water near the bank, which then disappeared under the water. That said, generally we don't dive near gators!
i have a photo of everything i found on the trip but i didn't make a video, sorry! i started doing that a little after I made this one.
Which dive charter did you use to take you there?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?
That wasn't a frogfish. It's called a batfish. I saw a bunch of those when I was there.
you're lucky! what do you do with them all?
No you can find them laying any which way. That's one of the things that can make them hard to spot, especialy when just part of the root is sticking out.In some areas you will find a bunch of teeth in some areas none. They get deposited with other fossil rubble. when you see black pebbles you'll find the teeth.
I would like to know if the teeth lies always on the same face (internal) or if it's due to hazard. Could you estimate the density of teeth on the floor? Is it more than one tooth by square meter?
i no longer have the particular camera that I used to shot this video, but I use a gopro and a sony cybershot tx7 currently.
@ncook1121 you have to swim a lot and work a good search pattern. the good viso should let you work a pretty big area. i would guess you found a lot of lemons in an area where the bottom was mainly sand, shells and small bits of phosphate? we were diving in areas of heavy phosphate. fewer small teeth but a better chance of big stuff. the camera is made by VuPoint solutions. it is a 5 megapixel digital camera with a plastic housing. it uses a 2gb SD card.
Lol. I was aware of this. Just playing dumb. Cool fossils. Do you know any good places to look for megalodon teeth in manatee county FL?
Wow thought that frog looking fish was a tooth at 1st😅
Awsome im n tampa wana go so bad
Will you make a video showing what you found on this trip?
Where in Venice is this? I go there every year, but the area off the beach is all sandy bottom. I've never seen the rocky bottom where you are.
really? Knife handles? That's interesting! I have never heard of that before.
there are fossils in Australia! A friend of mine has a bunch of sharks teeth and fossil mud lobsters from there.
I am not sure at 1:21 but that looked like a Rick fish. They have poisonous spines on there, when a large amount of pressure is applied such stepping on them the venom is released. The pain is said to feel as bad as having all your ribs broken and multiplying that pain ten times. There is no medical treatment for it, have wait it out until the pain stops. Most patients beg the doctor to cut their foot off because the pain is so unbearable.
What about gators? Any close encounters with them when looking for Meg teeth?
Hey I'm going to Florida on Christmas Eve I wish I can find some I might go to Venice beach I found a small megalodon tooth there!
Thanks you for replieing
funny. you'd be surprised how many people say stuff like that and they are completely serious. sorry, i don't know about any places to find megs in Florida besides for the Peace River and off Venice Beach. Good luck!
Allot of megalodons must have been beached there.
that whole thing was a mammoth tooth!?
I live not far from where this was filmed, and I was curious about why there are so many on Venice Beach. I live in St Pete, and I have heard of people finding them here, but nothing like there. For those who have never been, it is just as easy as it looks. They are everywhere, it is an unbelievable sight.

Can any hunters tell me, How hard is it to find meg teeth? I've never been hunting for them, nor do I have much experience diving. I am doing more diving nowadays and would love to go hunting, if you have any tips or good locations for a beginner please share. Thanks!
yes that whole thing is a mammoth tooth. they had really big teeth!
What depth are you guys finding them at?
@blackriverfossils
5 жыл бұрын
we were diving at a depth around 30 feet
you keep all those right
Allot of mammoths must have drowned there.
it was dry land back when the mammoths died, during the ice age.
i always thought mega teeth were impossible to find, but i am looking in youtube and alot of people are posting video of them finding them.
@blackriverfossils ok thnx
i don't know about fossils near Hanover, PA. Sorry. You should consult your local library or community college for more information.
We dont get anything like that here in England :(
We find them all the time in dredge disposal site were I work!
they are not hard to find but you have to scuba
@terroraria128 i kept them all but i don't have them all. the complete ones are on my fossil shelf. the others i gave to my dad, my kids, and a friend of my oldest son.
They mostly get broke up because of the dredge pipes. But we just keep them anyways
there is no alligator in this video, but there is in one of my other videos diving in the Edisto river in SC.
shortnose, actually ;P
Do you need a permit to jump in and collect
@blackriverfossils

if my memory is correct, you do not need a permit to collect shark teeth in florida but if you collect any mammal material then you have to get one.
I'll try not to step on one then!
25 to 30 feet
how deep were you
what is that at 1:21?
I dont know about shark teeth. That might be interesting to find out. Anyone else think so?
I have a house down in Venice
This in Savannah Ga by the way
@MudDobber247 i post a picture of all my finds on my site along with the video. i would post a link but youtube won't let me. just google black river fossils and you'll find it.
