Venice Beach Homeless Encampment Clean-up Update: 07.23.2021

More than a dozen City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works sanitation workers in white hazardous materials suits clear-out homeless encampments between Sunset Ave and Dudley on the Venice Beach Boardwalk, July 23, 2021.
The homeless encampment clearing is being completed in stages and broken down into 5 zones. The last zone is scheduled to be removed by July 30.
HOUSING OPTIONS:
Outreach workers have been out at Venice Beach regularly, offering housing to people residing at the Beach. Outreach workers will continue to be present in each zone prior to the listed cleanup day to connect the unhoused with these housing options. Sufficient housing options exist for anyone who was living at the beach on or before June 25, 2021. If unhoused need help moving belongings, assistance will be provided. Transportation to the housing site is available at no charge to the unhoused.

FYI: The LAPD are not responsible for the clean-up. It was Sheriff Villanueva and his Deputies that spearheaded the cleanup project back in 2021. PROMISE MADE, PROMISE KEPT. Sheriff Villanueva and his Deputies did a great job cleaning up the boardwalk when Venice Beach's own board of supervisors did absolutely nothing to clean it up. All they did was sit on their butts and hands and form committees to "investigate" the problem. I'm a native of L.A., and it's the liberal politicians-- with the tactless governor nephew of Nancy Pelosi in the lead-- who invite homeless from all over the country and south of our borders to come to California and live here on the streets. Is that fair? P.S. I once offered a homeless dude to buy him a first-class plane ticket to fly him back to his home in Indiana. He refused and said he'd rather live on the street here in L.A. and beg for change so he can buy another pint of rot gut and lay in his own filth. I figure if he went back to Indiana he’d have to work for a living. Okay?

When I was in High school there was two clear choices after graduation College or the draft. Fear is the best motivation. When word spread that the draft was ended it was like taking the lid off the pressure cooker. Lots of guys went surfing in Baja or just hung out....and here we are. Could reinstate the draft for an Urban Corp of workers who were homeless. There you work to clean up the mess while learning skills and gaining experience. They say it takes three months to make or break a habit. After six months of getting up at sunrise, three meals, hard work, showers and YesSir they should be employable. Then they graduate to real private sector jobs and a new batch of recruits begins training. Have it run by retired military. Now we're helping vets and the homeless. Nobody who served our country should ever be unemployed or homeless.

What's mine is mine; what's ours is also mine. Since I don't have much I am entitled to take what I want. That's what I see in all this. I know some people have difficulty with finding work and navigating our social structure but there are resources available that don't include taking areas that are meant for everyone to enjoy. Thanks for the video coverage of the cleanup.

All they have to do is put trash in the tent. Cut the posts on top in the middle (bolt cutters) It will fold down on itself and becomes a trash bag. Easier to move. Lol! Metal detecting people should be having fun!

The cleanup crews need to be careful of dirty needles, mice and rats, and debris that can give them blood poisoning if they cut themselves. Although it is a good idea to put everything in the tent and put it in the trash masher, It's probably not the safest way to do it.

Tents aren’t cheap…..so where did they get them? I must say that i find it disgusting that it was even allowed to get that bad. How much money in labor and equipment has been spent to clean up that sh*t hole?

Yes , it’s like a plough type of machine , in Europe all the heavy traffic tourist beaches use them 👍🏻 they ride them across the sand early in the morning so it’s clean for the day .

I took a 43K loss on a $167,000 on a paid cash for commercial property I neither needed or wanted to sell. Because I knew that a personal violence, transient initiated, "irrevocable event" was already over due. It is too late for me, but I`m glad to finally see the resolve to change the nature of things taking hold so forcefully.
