Lots are called flitches which come from the same log. Book matched. Crotches are formed at branches from the main trunk. Veneers are graded by defects , face grade n backing grades. Unusual grain attract hirer process. Cost is determined by the way it is cut. Rotary is the least expensive versus quarter sawn.

इसके रखरखाव का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण बिंदु- इसमें sheen/luster बनाए रखने के लिए जो polish करवाना पड़ता है वो बहुत महँगी और सेहत के लिए बहुत हानिकारक होती है। साथ ही labour intensive व अधिक समय लेने वाली प्रक्रिया है। आप रुबियो monocoat नामक पॉलिश करवा सकते हैं जिससे समय व labour तो बचेगा लेकिन वह भी काफ़ी महंगा विकल्प पड़ता है।

Very informative video. It would have been helpful if you could have given a comparative cost analysis with an example like if a console unit has to be made in veneer v/s laminate what would be an approx costing in absolute terms. I understand there could be a variation depending upon design, selection of laminate / veneer etc.. but it would help to get an insight on the price variation between laminate and veneer by taking a ball park example.

If we say 8'x4' size veneer will be 32sqftx150rs= 4800 Rs 150 /- sqft rate with polishing or without polishing? If not then the polishing rate is how much?

Hi! This rate is without polishing. Normal polish would cost you approximately Rs.60-70 persqft and lamination Rs.90-110 persqft

Laminates are best than Veneer in terms of durability. It is not waterproof and can easily peel away the thin layer of wood. Also it is not scratch resistant or scratch proof. Only advantage is the real texture and look of the wood it is made of.

Here is my question.. can we feel veneer’s grains if we give it a matt finish? I do not like glossy finish,I like raw things more,creating a classic look..will veneer be good for that?

People who appreciate the naturally beauty of wood want to be able to feel it in its natural form. Die hard woodworkers never stain wood. Layers of synthetic finishes give it a plastic/laminate feel. Why use veneer might as well use a laminate. Coming to your question. 1. Beeswax plus carnuba wax in terpentine. 2.double boiled linseed oil 3. Tung oil 4. Danish oil 5. Natural hard wax finishes. Excellent for counter tops and floors All the above are avaible in India. Some of the above you can make at home. One thing the vendor or the architect did not mention is that venveer should be applied to both the surfaces of the substrate. The non show side can be of a lower grade. This will form a more durable panel. Contact cement is not an appropriate glue for veneering. Use a cold press PVA glue or marine fevicol. Ideally veneer should be vacuum pressed at 15 to 20 inches Excessive vacuum will pull the glue the pores of the wood n cause finishing problems.
