VELANKANNI SHRINE | HOW TO VISIT VELANKANNI BY BUS ?

I have taken bus rides from Chennai multiple times; and every time it is a new experience. For Velankanni it is better to take a train, however bus rides are equally good. There are multiple delux bus operators who ply buses on this route including Rathimeena which is my favorite. These buses leave Chennai around midnight and reach Velankanni by 7 next morning, approximately 7-8 hours.
Whenever I am not able to take air conditioned bus, I take a government bus from Koyembedu Bus Stand from where one can get buses throughout the day. The government buses are uncomfortable, but will cost your pocket only half.

Very informative... Are day buses available from chennai to velankanni and velankanni to chennai? Is the frequency good enough?

Hi Antonio! Firstly, Happy Feast Day! We are celebrating Our Lady's Birthday today! Distance from the following airports to Vellankanni is as follows: Chennai International airport to Vellankanni is 306 KM Coimbatore airport to Velankanni 382 KM Tiruchirapalli airport to Velankanni 153 KM via NH 83 Madurai airport to Velankanni 272 KM via NH 85 and East Cost Road Having said that, I have no information regarding transportation availability from the said airports to Vellankanni except that from Chennai Airport. I have taken bus from Chennai's Koyambedu Bus Stand to Vellankanni, both AC couches as well as government buses (which are not comfortable, but worth travelling if one is travelling in a shoestring budget). No. The shrine management booking counter is not at bus stand. But very close to the bus stand adjacent to the main road. Stay away from the touts as they are from private hotels.

@@AFA111 OK. In case you are visiting first time, please note that the shrine will be extremely crowded for the feast. Plus buses might be stopped 2-3 KM far from the actual main bus stand. Once I had visited the shrine in September and it was a challenging experience. Wish you the best.
