The only Schecter that i own is a hardtail string through, after fitting locking tuners it stays in tune very well. Schecter and esp seem to use below par trems, the Floyds are best avoided. The Vega trem is a perfect answer, but the prices are high. Great to hear that your dream Schecter is now perfoming at it's best. Enjoy your playing Jonathan.

Anything below a Floyd Rose 1000 is not worth getting. Many Guitar companies equip whats listed as a 'Floyd Rose special", it's sub par & not worth having UNLESS you dont mind having to replace posts, blades & saddles sooner rather than later. I totally agree with your comment on the Vegatrem being far too expensive-if they had dropped the price by around 30-40 USD/EUR they would would have increased their sales by far, but i guess they think that they want to cater to a particular niche, ergo the price.....

Schecter are making very nice more traditional guitars, nice review!!

Thanks for the excellent documenting of the installation, Jon. I'm having some tuning issues with my Nick Johnston, even with trem arm off, but not sure if just weather changes & haven't had it long. Removed backplate & checked routing though, it is just like in your orange NJ VT video w/o this problem. I do wonder if the ebony FB on mine might work out differently than the roasted maple one on your NJ.. wouldn't stop me from trying the VegaTrem though.

Pretty darn impressive. The playing, the guitar the speech. I wisht I had a vega trem. They start at $350 Cdn. I want the new trem for my Squier SE which is likely worth $150 at most. So maybe not. Musiclilly here I come. But when you a world class guitarist you NEED a Vega Trem. As a Jonathan Koh follower, I do not want to see/hear you stressing that guitar for my listening enjoyment and it implodes. A ridiculous notion of course thanx to the really good tools your using. Please give us more.

Hey John, loving your videos, been learning a lot thx to them and your tone man it's out of heaven, quick question, do you have a video on techniques using the trem? Or where do you recommend me to start? I've been always a scaredy cat on using them even when I already had a Floyd Rose equipped guitar but never been able to grasp how to use it properly.

I have a Tele clone that I wanted 2 put a humbucker in the neck position. It was routed for humbucker but body route didn't line up with pickguard cutout so I had 2 route the body. So I feel your pain.

I just installed a Vega Trem on my 2005 American Standard Strat and I had to the same thing. My D & G strings wouldn’t even play when I first strung my guitar because they were so low. I had to raise all the strings a lot. To the point that almost all the Allen screws on my saddles are way deep inside the saddles. Looks like you had to do the same thing. But so far I’m liking the Vega Trem. I’ll know more after my gigs this week.

Jonathan, I'm impressed with the vega system. I found a 201o Epiphone Goth V in showroom condition. Do you know if the VegaTrem would work on an Epiphone? Appreciate your videos they are very informative.

How much does it cost to do a vegatrem change out on your guitar with also having to alter the body just a little. I’m just learning guitar and this guitar seems like the godly locks guitar for me and the vegatrem made it even that much cooler ! Any feed back will help, thanks! Great playing by the way!

On this particular guitar, there was some routing involved. You might want to check with your local luthier✌️❤️

Hi Jonathan, I have a Schecter Nick Johnston HSS and love it, but had much better luck with Wilkinson II tremolos on previous guitars. Please advise: Were you able to install a VegaTrem on you Nick Johnston guitar without needing to route anything? What tuners would you recommend as replacements on that guitar? Thanks!!

03/20/2023: Wow, great video. I love using a whammy bar. I am looking at your Schecter guitar or the Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HH 2PT CM Electric Guitar Black. Now that I see the tuning stability problem on the Schecter, I am wondering about the Charvel. Have you tested the Charvel Pro-Mod DK24 HH 2PT CM Electric Guitar for tuning stability? Also, the Schecter guitar has 14" radius neck and the Charvel has 12"-16" radius neck. I would think a neck with just one radius would be better for string height adjustments, per the radius stays the same the entire neck. What do you think compound radius necks?

Just try screw ing on the plate.. it will eventually catch. Use the American adaptor. Worse case scenario, use fillers✌️❤️

The vega trems are excellent Jonathan BUT they are waaaaaaay too expensive-we're talking about middle to high end Floyd Rose trem prices. IMHO for the average guitarist, they make no sense to buy-i say this because they cost half the price of a decent middle of the road guitar (400 euro can get you a fine instrument nowadays). But hey thats just my opinion, i'll let the others speak for themselves. I wish you the best & Stay Safe brother :)

@@JonIsJustTooLoud Don't get me wrong, i find the Vegatrem MUCH better and stable than any Floyd Rose & certainly easier to setup & maintain, it's just the price that kills it for me. I used the FR simply as an example of a high end trem and it's price. They sound great on your guitars, add to that your playing & its a recipe for well crafted music, but i honestly feel that for what it is (parts included), if Vegatrem dropped their prices between 30-40 Euro, they would up their sales & also make the trem much more available to many more users. All the best :)

I wouldn't call it vanity, tbh, it's just consistency. Brass knobs on a chrome hardware guitar look out of place, and not in an intentional way.

So I installed the Vegatrem on my Schecter NJ Traditional, yet the height is too low, strings against the pickup and fingerboard. I was expecting the two threaded inserts could function as the pole levelers (as the original trem bridge), such two sizes wont fit. So I cannot play with the string action. Did you encounter same issue? Help!

@@JonIsJustTooLoud Hi again. It was needed to add 3 washers to get it to the right string height. So the bridge looks off set from the body. Doesnt look good, but could work. What I mean is that in your Schecter doesnt seem to have that much of increased height. Any picture you could share would me awesome. Also, what about the supplied inserts? Neither sizes in the package fitted. Did you change them?

Does the Nick's signature also have such a big pool under the pickguard?

Jon, I know this video is old. But hopefully you still check comments. I'm seriously thinking about Vega Trem for my Schecter Nick Johnston HSS. The stock trem is very good, so I'm afraid to change it! Lol. Would you say Vega is worth it? My play style is very similar to yours. I use the trem a lot. All of my other guitars are Floyd Rose, so I have no problems there. Just my NJ guitar.
