if ur still getting issues with this, go to view and then go to Window Layouts, then select the Default Layout ;)

Nice! For me this wasn't the issue, it was that my Master Bus was pushed over top of my Video Preview window. But this lead me to figuring out my problem, so thank you!!

Also it's best to make sure 2 different video clips aren't on the same rendered track, the other video may need its own track to edit so if both videos are on track one and all you can hear is the audio from track 2 with no video playback from track 1 just move the track 1 video to track 3 it may play from there

For anyone having this issue, here is what worked for me. After trying everything and after countless weeks of googling and youtubing. I’ve finally found the solution that fixed this dreaded issue without having to change any settings in vegas or converting .mov to mp4 whatsoever. The issue is your Nvidia gpu card. Nvidia gpu cards don’t work well with vegas pro. After i swapped out my Nvidia for an AMD videocard, the problem was solved. No more blackout and even .mov files played and rendered flawlessly. I caught this because I noticed that two of my other computers were running vegas flawlessly without any issues for years. I then took a step back and noticed that both of those two computers used AMD videocards. So on a whim, i switched out my RTX 3060 Nvidia card with an older Amd rx480 card and Voila!!! Problem solved and now vegas pro works flawlessly, even with .mov files. So if you’re having issues, try swapping out your nividia card for an amd card before you drive yourself crazy like i did. Of course you may not be able to swap out videochips on a laptop or notebook, but for a desktop with a this works wonders. My speculation is that vegas pro was just never really meant to be optimized to work well with nvidia videocards as it seems to favor Amd cards instead. It’s a shame but this is something that the the software creators should’ve tested and fixed.
