As a 5 year old small boy I was present at this event and was allowed to hang onto the second tier of railings by the Victoria memorial to get a decent view. There were four of us up there but eventually we had to give way to more enthusiastic adults celebrating. Wonderful memory still makes me cry.

Nobody alive on that balcony that remembers this great day & sight now. They all did their duty. Rest now Elizabeth, in the Kingdom of heaven with your loved ones forever.
I can only imagine the delirious relief and joy of the British people on that day after over 5 years of terror fear and catastrophic bloodshed. I'm told that the royal princesses after much pleading were allowed by their parents to join the teeming joyous crowd outside of Buckingham Palace
My grand parents loved the King and Queen !
The only time ever in history this to be every one was pure British getting together. Last time ever Amazing history never ever repeat nor forgotten.
There's something about the plane going past Nelson's column, knowing that this generation had defeated another threat to our country, that this would be another addition to the pantheon of Britons who had defeated tyranny, that we were worthy of our countries great history and it was a victory that Heroes of the past would be proud of. great imagery !
A lot of people are going to Remember. The 8th May 1945 for Years to come. Happy VE Day everyone
Better generation of people than us. Our best and bravest, more or less all gone now, we don't know we're born.
watching this for at home history lesson, but still such a amazing moment to remember!

I did. My mum and dad and I were in the crowd outside Buckingham Palace. My father, a soldier, lifted me on to his shoulders. I saw Churchill and the Royal Family. I had spent part of the War, during the bombing, sleeping in an Anderson shelter in our garden in London.

Well, you would have had to witness the war itself as well: the bombings, the fear, the loss, the hunger, the uncertainty; could have ended broken physically or mentally, the rationing before and after,... a lot happened before and after that day, so maybe the best is to experience it as history rather than the real thing 😊

When the commentator said "We are living in the midst of many great events, We know that in the days where war seems remote and far away, these will be historic pictures. They will tell another generation how England celebrated victory in Europe" really made me gasp as we are that generation.

When the Soviet tanks arrived A cry for help in time of need, await relief from workers league 60 days of siege, outnumbered and weak Sent a message to the sky, working soldiers left to die Will they hold the wall or will the city be lost Dedication Dedication They're outnumbered 15 to one And the battle's begun Then the Soviet tanks arrived Coming down the mountainside Then katushas bomb the flanks Coming down they turned the tide As the days are passing by and as the dead are piling high No escape and no salvation Trenches to explosive halls are buried deep beneath the walls Plant the charges there and watch the city fear Desperation Desperation It's a desperate race against the mine And a race against time Then the Soviet tanks arrived Coming down the mountainside Then the Soviet tanks arrived Coming down they turned the tide Rockets shots are coming down from the sky Nazis are you ready to die? We will seek our vengeance eye for an eye You'll be stopped upon the steps of our gate On this field you're only facing our hate But back home the pig is sealing your fate We remember In November That's the night Moscow was freed We made the enemy bleed! Storm clouds, fire and steel Death from above make their enemy kneel
Happy v.e day 👍👍

What I wouldn’t give for some time-travel tickets, to be in London that day! It must have been positively electric. Next year will be the 80th anniversary of VE Day, and the fact that the Third Reich was finally and irrevocably wiped from the face of the Earth, is something for which we can and should celebrate with an equal share enthusiasm, relief, and thanksgiving, as they did that day. “What God Hath Wrought” was the front page banner head of the Los Angeles Times; with an image of a 'V Sign' hand bursting out of the globe, with a tattered and in shambles Nazi flag strewn through its fingers. Powerful stuff, my friends, powerful stuff.

Yeah, but unfortunately in America we’re back to Fascism. There is a fifth grader at the White House who ignores Congress and the Constitution and we’re about to become a dictatorship.

In reality the slavery would have come if the enemy - the Nazis - had won; then you would have really learned the true meaning of the word: no freedom of lifestyle, of speech, religion, association, political affiliation, or even quite possibly simply to right to exist. For all its faults today's western democracy allows for a great many freedoms, one of them being that you can say pretty much whatever you like about these very people you accuse of enslaving you, and they will do absolutely nothing about it.
