VCV Rack + MP Midi Controller!!
I've been using this midi controller for about 6 weeks with VCV Rack. This is a deep-ish dive, looking at real-world usage. Possibly the first video of many? Check it out! @mpmidi @VCVRack
Note: I mistakenly said that UPDD comes with the controller, but it's actually an additional purchase, with a great discount from MP Midi.

Thank you! Cheers!
Great review, thanks. How have you found the ergonomics of the knobs around the border of the device in use? I use a custom TouchOSC patch on my iPad + a modified VCV OSCelot module to control vcvrack, which works kind of ok. But of course it’s missing the physical controls. Very interested to hear how you are finding it so far.

Ergonomically I find it quite good. Like I showed in the video, I set the bottom ones to be 8 channel volume controllers, and generally set the top 8 to a default set of params. So I have the left/right vertical sets that my hands just rest on. They've introduced some cool little upgrades to the VST wrapper now, so you can cycle through DAW tracks where the MP MIDI is running, and the mappings change accordingly. You can also cycle through banks of encoder mappings within any instance, so you're not limited to 32 params just because there are 32 knobs. I should use the touch screen more - I am just so used to using the mouse that's right beside me.... (also sorry for the delay, haven't been on here in a while).
Good review, thank you. I see that you have 3 usb C connections and a HDMI cable, on their website it says that one ubc C connection is enough and you can make more connections if extra power is needed. I only have one usb C connection and I wonder; will that be enough?

If they say it works it should work. My setup requires very long cables, so i was getting signal/power drop. Using dedicated cables for power, video, touch/data solved it. Email them - the customer service is great.
Can I still use it without the wrapper? and if I do what limitations am I facing? thx

I think you can, but im not 100% sure. But you wouldnt have any visuals on-screen, so you'd just have a very expensive set of rotary encoders.
