    Excellent full review on this projector on such short timeframe before their official campaign launch... I think your full review is the first one of this projector on KZread, so congrats! And thanks for following up with my question on the color space mapping between HDR and SDR from your previous video! A couple more follow up questions: 1. How is the focus and uniformity near the corners and edges? I hear for UST projectors, those aspects tend to be challenging compared to standard throw projectors. 2. Because of the price point, I'm guessing this is a no, but does it have frame-by-frame dynamic tone mapping like some of the new LG laser projectors have?

  • @BuildMontage

    @BuildMontage

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Alvin, and thanks for watching and your great questions. 1) I found the focus to be somewhat good compared to other USTs I've tested. I noticed that you can favour either the top of the bottom but there is a sweet spot inbetween which I managed to nail pretty easily - although I have vision issues - my kids helped me! 2) I don't believe there is frame-adapt HDR like you can get in the JVC NX7, I saw a button which you can toggle to "automatically" adapt HDR, but I couldn't see it working in practicality. I think some of these things will be known as time progresses.

    Agreed. I don't get why none of the Vava Chroma video uploaded so far haven't side-by-side compared to older model which is good measure to improvement if it's really improved by having 3 lasers. I know you guys have both models, so it's not difficult to make the video. I don't really see any major quality improvements so far in any video compare to old Vava review.

  • @BuildMontage

    @BuildMontage

    It is more time consuming than you realise to produce a video to a certain standard. A comparison video will come when I have a production unit - I have a pre-production unit so it isn't really ideal to compare them until I have all the latest firmware updates or a new unit.

  • @Shishaaa88a

    @@BuildMontage that statement, makes zero sense. The whole point of your review is to show features and improvements. Sure, If the sidebyside wouldnt have been sooo good, we could argue OK...its pre-production. Hi there Tony...Your review was very good! However, I was curious why no one asked if that back lighted VAVA logo could be controlled and turned off as I would find it a distraction. Also, 2 other issues...one seems that with the new ATSC 3.0 coming out it would have been nice to have a Coax BNC connection with a TV tuner inside. Second, regarding frame rates, the newest HDMI 2.1 for 4k @120 fps should have been installed. That way it would be "future proof" for 8k content down the road. Interested if anyone else had similar thoughts. Thank you!!

  • @BuildMontage

    @BuildMontage

    2 жыл бұрын

    Hi Stephen, thanks for watching. The VAVA logo turns off when it's switched on - it only stays on during standby. I'm not sure about any TV tuner as the reliance is on the Android TV app built in. And yes, I agree 120hz 4K HDMI 2.1 would have been nice, but sadly it is only 2.0. I'm sure VAVA are listening to feedback so likely will make some upgrades down the track..

    Fast motion seems ok to me - I have played some action movies and it seemed pretty fluid. I don't know what you mean by sparkling. I think the product needs to be 7" away from the wall which means you would need more than 10". Its about 15" deep so if I understand it correctly, you would need 15+7 (22" of space) for 100" screen and 15+11 (26" of space) for 120".

    In my opinion, this was kind of a waste without the 120". A 100 inch screen at the price that they will be selling it at just does not seem worth it when you can buy a 85"/86" TV for around $2k. The main reason is because of the placement when using a 120" screen. That pushes the projector far from the wall and pretty far down, or the screen really high. I installed the original one for a customer that bought a 150" screen because VAVA makes people think you can use one of that size. Well, technically you can. It literally had to sit on the floor and well over 2 feet from the wall. Now 30" probably makes a big difference, but at 120" it will probably still be low and far from the wall. Good video for what you covered though. BTW did they do that garbage where there is no IR on the projector again? They made the last one so you could not use a universal remote. That was pretty lame. Especially since the built in "smart hub" was gaaaaaaaaarbage.

  • @BuildMontage

    @@topperdude2007 I honestly did not notice it at all - however I did see it in the video. This was one of the most difficult and frustrating shoots I've ever done because the shutter speed of the camera was not playing nicely with the refresh rate of the projector. I did see the splitting of colours in the footage, but I can assure you it's not there - or I certainly couldn't see it - in person. I spent 4 days on just trying to get footage - with limited windows to shoot as I needed to do it at night. I can't promise it's not there, but I couldn't see it in person even though the camera seems to capture it. I ended up having my camera set to 60fps with a shutter speed of 125 just to capture what I could without stuttering.

    @@BuildMontage No worries, mate! As I mentioned in my previous message (and I am guessing you know this as well), rainbow effect is very very subjective. Just like you could not see the rainbow effect, one of my friends (who I helped setup his home theater with the original Vava earlier this year) could not see rainbow effect with the original Vava. I, on the other hand, saw it right away. In fact, I was so sensitive, I could notice it anytime there was any fast motion - which gets super annoying in action movies, NFL etc. So in this instance, I consider you (and my friend) fortunate whereas due to my ultra-sensitivity to rainbow effect, I had to return the original Vava I purchased for myself.
