    Very helpful posting by Joe Numes the best one i have seen on you Tube for this problem which effects dozens of Vivaro and Master owners. The position of that wiring loom is a disgrace next to a sharp metal edge and to hide it under a metal cover with security bolts is even more weird whats going on Renault??? all you needed to do was put some plastic tube around the loom and this would never have happened. I've got the same problem with my Master so going to check all the tips from Joe an honest guy putting out this post to help others and save them a mint in needless part change outs I've bought 3 Master vans over the years after this post I have decided to never buy a Renault again if thats what they get up to with electrical wiring and other items as well.

    Hi Joe. I watched your video on the Vauxhall Vivaro engine fault with great interest. I have for some time suffered a similar problem off and on with my Renault Trafic 2005.. My Traffic has two problems, firstly, Revs are unstable at 2600 to 2800 rpm. The Trafic runs well 'til the engine reaches optimum temperature and then the power drops off 'til eventually the engine stops. It runs fine again when it has cooled down. Had similar problems two years ago so went to main dealer (Opel) where I live in Spain. they had it for two weeks and could not fix it. Then took it to an Auto Mechanico garage, they had it for three weeks and could not fix it. So had to go it alone. A Mechanic heard about my problem and together we discovered that the turbo spindle bush was worn and leaking Oil into the cooler so we replaced the turbo with a refurb but the engine still stopped when up to temperature. Frustrated by this time we decided to change all the sensors we could find and Eureka! problem solved. One by one, we substituted all the new sensors with the original ones 'til we discovered the crank shaft timing sensor was faulty. However, now a similar problem has re appeared. your video has given me new hope, so I will check the wiring harness around the ECU but your thoughts would be most welcome.

    Check the blue multi plug in the main fuse box next to the ECU, Happened to mine: Usually there’s a pink wire goes in off the accelerator pedal and in from under the plug:’ I just sprayed mine with contact spray wiggled lol And it’s been fine: Common problem that’s overlooked. No one could fix it so had to sort it myself🤔

    Thanks for this video, recently got the glow plug light come on my dash. Flickered on and off for a few days, then stayed on steady. Van runs fine for all intents and purposes but I figured some wiring short somewhere, due to it flickering before going steady on me. Plugged in my scan tool and get no comms with the ECU! Thought that was odd, turned the key off and back on to see the dash lights, I get the works... except the engine management light! I've had a look at the OBD port wiring, seemed okay (no multimeter to hand sadly...) and also had a poke around the notorious fuse box in the engine bay and all seems good. The van has had a clutch at some point for sure, half the clips to hold the wires in place are just not put back on properly, I suspect my issue lies in the exact same spot yours does, so with any luck I'll be getting it out. I might have to grind off one of those stupid security bolts however.

    I’ve got a 58 plate M9R Vivaro and I’ve had this happen, black death gearshift linkage and also the dodgy MAF as issues. Apart from that it’s not been too bad. Seen a few vehicles with wiring breaks, one of the issues of having vibration, copper cables in the wet and keeping runs as short as possible.

    hi joe , i have a 2007 renault trafic 115 dci in at the garage at the moment, the van wont rev above 2500 rpm, the van was cutting out due to a damaged mass air flow plug, with that fault now resolved i tested the van again but it sill wont rev above 2500 rpm, and no fault codes present, im currently checking though the vacuum side of things on the engine as i discovered the boost solenoid that is mounted near the glow plug relay didnt have any vacuum lines connected to it and that the sensor was just hanging around near the gearbox, i have gotten so far with putting all the vac lines back in the right place but i am now left with one pipe where my diagram doesnt tell me where it goes, so far i have pipe from turbo to boost solenoid then from solenoid to a t piece section with one pipe going to the vacuum pump on engine and the other going to another sensor that is bolted to the right side of the engine the sensor has one pipe going to a valve on the egr system that opens and closes a valve but on the from of the sensor there is one more port where a pipe should be going to but i have no idea where the last pipe goes if you have any diagrams or know how the piping routes please message me, regards, alex

    Great vid 👍😉 I find the wiring on these vans is the worst I've ever come across. How Renault thought leaving wires bare all over the place was a good idea 🙄🙄😲. Folk who own these vans really do need to check and protect the wiring. Earth straps are another problem area corroding away, the loom under the air box gets rubbed through, every connector has wires hanging out of them that are not protected. No wonder french cars/ vehicles get a bad rep 🤔😠😲

    Hi Thank you for your question. Unfortunately it very difficult, if not impossible to diagnose vehicle electric/electronic faults on electronic fuel injected vehicles without physically testing the suspect items or circuits. Someone competent has to scan it for fault codes and then follow the correct procedures for whatever codes may be present, otherwise, you’ll just be randomly throwing parts at the vehicle and possibly introducing new problems, which may make the original fault harder to diagnose. Kind regards, Joe.

    I've just got myself a vauxhall vivaro 2006 at 130k miles. I got it for work as I'm a tradesman. After I got it I found out that they're famous for leaking at the scuttle tray and love to drip onto the injectors, fusing them to the engine. I opened the bonnet and pored a bottle of water onto the windscreen and water started pissing out all over the cover where the filter and the injectors are. I removed it all, cleaned it all out, sealed it all, put it all back together then I sealed the join where it meets the windscreen to be extra safe. I've been testing it over the past few days with buckets of water over the windscreen and not a drip! Next job is to pull the cover off and check the injectors. I've heard that if they are slightly corroded and won't come out, un clipping them and letting the engine run does the trick because the pressure builds up and pops them out. Would you recommend this? Great video by the way mate. You've got a like and a sub from me.

    Hi Gaming Junkie. I'm assuming you are talking about the 2 Litre engine (M9R) I would recommend that you take the engine cover off and check where the injectors fit in the cylinder head. The wells are normally filled with water. First thing i would do is blow ann the water out. Then i would put an amount of penetrating fluid in and around the injects and let it soak through. If i wanted to take the injectors out for whatever reason, i would first use the recommended factory injector pulling tool. As for popping them out with combustion pressure, you could try that, although that is not a factory approved way of doing it and i must say, that although i would try it myself, for legal reasons you are in your own on this one and i Take No Responsibility whatsoever for any damage, injury, or loss that may arise from you doing it that way. If i were to do it that way, i would only release the injector retaining nuts part of the way, would only do one injector at a time and would make sure that No One, including myself, was standing in front of the engine when it was running. I hope this helps. Let us know how you got on.

    JoeNunes345 Cheers for the information bud. I would definitely follow those safety measures if I was to do it that way. I've seen videos saying pretty much the same thing. Wouldn't want to be retrieving injectors from the neighbours head from over the road! Hopefully the penetrative fluid will loosen them up enough to pull them out. I just want to check on them really to see their situation as I've only just bought the van. It's actually a 1.9 2006 Di 2900 model. Does that make any difference to what we're taking about? I believe the injectors are under the cover below the air intake... am I correct in thinking this? Your quick reply was very much appreciated!! Cheers :)

    Send me your registration number and i will attempt to find out your engine code, assuming it is a British registered vehicle. Unless you are having running problems, i would leave the injectors alone, as you are unlikely to see anything of any value. To test those injectors, you need specialist test equipment.

    @JoeNunes345

    Hi Paul, thanks for your question. Unfortunately as no doubt you will agree, diagnosing vehicle problems without any form of physical testing, is nigh impossible these days. My suggestion to you, is to find a competent mechanic near you, with the right scanning equipment and see if he can find any indication/direction as to what might be causing the problem and then go from there. I am very much against replacing any parts whatsoever, just to see if that cures the fault. "Test Don't Guess", otherwise you are just throwing the proverbial against the wall, just in case some of it sticks and that could end up costing you a lot of money, without resolving the real issue.. When i scanned the above vehicle, every time it broke down, the ECU kept on reporting Internal Power Failure and also multiple injector faults, as well as other faults. I could have decided at that time to replace the ECU, but as we now know, that would have been wrong and expensive. The only thing i can suggest at this stage is for you to make sure that the battery, the starting system and all their connections are in good, serviceable order. Anything else, would just be a guess. Sorry if i can't be more helpful. I hope you get a satisfactory outcome to this problem and maybe you could let us all know what you found that was causing the problem. Best of luck, Joe

    Hi , wonder if you could give me any clues on this. I have a renault traffic 1.9 diesel 2006. When driving it would just cut out with no warning as tho someone had turned the ignition off. leave it for 10-20 min and it starts up. try it any earlier it just spins over without starting. Spoke to a mechanic who said its probably the crank sensor. I removed the sensor and fitted the new one, it started straight away but wouldnt rev up(every time you tried to rev it it went to cut out) I got another sensor (lucas) as I thought it could of been a faulty one. This was the same. On closer inspection the original sensor had had its lugs ground off on the sides. I put this one back in and it started up and reved up. I ground the lugs off the new one(lucas) and put it in loosely and with the wife turning the key and me moving it around on an angle it started up and reved up. My question is could the dual mass flywheel be loose(its not noisey) or ??? I am loosing patience with it. Thanks pete.

    +pete somers It certainly sounds as though the new sensor is not picking up the signal from the flywheel as it should in the position it was intended to function from. The big question is why??? You could try and remove the starter motor to see if you could move the flywheel about more than it should. Is there a possibility that someone fitted a slightly smaller flywheel from another engine intended for another application??? Also make sure the wiring integrity is good, especially around the connector on the engine side of the harness. I am assuming that you already have had the vehicle scanned for any fault codes that might give you some direction as to what might be happening. You may have to take it to someone with an oscilloscope and examine the CRK signal for any irregularities and it could at the same time let you see if the dual mass is misbehaving. Please lets us know when you find the solution, so we can all benefit. I hope this helps. Joe

    Hi Marian. Your problem should be an easy one to correct. You might need an assistant to operate the horn button, whilst you check the power feed to the horn, at the horn with a test light with the lead connected to a good ground. Basically, the horn needs to be well grounded and a good power source applied to it, in order for it to work. If you don't have a power feed at the horn, then you will have to work your way back to the power source. If you have a good power supply and a good ground at the horn, and it still does not work, then the horn must be faulty and should be replaced. I hope this helps. Regards, Joe

    Hi, thanks for your question. As you can appreciate it is difficult for to make the right diagnosis without doing any sort of testing, but i will try to get you on the right track, somehow. You said you replaced all the glow plugs, relay and cam sensor. Was there any particular reason as to why you replaced these parts? The glow plugs on this type of vehicle are not needed for starting, unless the outside temperature is very low, -4degrees, i am led to believe. As the glow plug warning lamp is on all the time, you need to make sure that the plugs are not staying on all the time, otherwise there is a good chance that they will melt and fall inside the cylinder, possibly causing engine damage With today's vehicles there are so many electronics, controlling the engine and as such, the majority of the time you need to have the vehicle's computer scanned for any fault codes, that might be stored in memory. Please bear in mind, that any fault codes that you may be able to obtain from the ECM, should only be viewed/used as a guide, or pointer, as to what may be wrong with the the engine management system and once it points you to a certain area, further testing is necessary, otherwise you could end up replacing expensive, unnecessary sensors. The first thing i would recommend, before doing anything else, is to have it scanned for fault codes and see where that leads. If i had to have a guess, from what you have told me in your post, bearing in mind that i have not seen or heard the engine cranking and the fact that you mention that it starts easily with a tow and you are not experiencing any loss of power when driving, i would suggest that you pay particular attention to the cranking speed. Diesel engines, rely heavily on having good compression during cranking, in order start and cranking speed has a direct effect on that.Make sure that the Starting System Is in good order. Furthermore, the Engine Control Unit, will not trigger the injectors, unless it sees a certain amount of Fuel Rail Pressure, which can also be adversely affected by low cranking speed. I am just trying to cover as many angles as possible. You may also want to make sure that your ignition switch is not faulty and power (Battery Live) is not being lost when you turn the key to the cranking position. A quick way to test that, if you are not electrically minded, is to tow start the vehicle and whilst the engine is running, turn the ignition switch all the to the crank position. If the engine stops, you have found your problem. Ideally, you should disconnect the starter solenoid control wire, before doing this, but if you're not sure, just engage the starter. I'm probably gonna get some stick for suggesting this, but i'm sure many of us have in the past engaged the starter by mistake, whilst the engine was running. You should only have to turn the key for a second or two and if it is a faulty switch, the engine will stop straight away It's also a good idea to make sure your fuel system is in good order, although as the vehicle performs well, with no signs of any loss of power, i doubt that the problem lies with this area I hope i have been able to help you with this matter, and please share your findings when you get it sorted out, so that we can all benefit from each other. Good luck. Joe

    As usual, it is not easy to diagnose a problem such as you are experiencing, from a distance. However, the first thing you have to do is have your vehicle's ECU scanned for fault codes, to see if you can get some direction as to what might be wrong with your vehicle. The days of doing things by ear are over. A computer is controlling your engine and you need to know what the computer (ECU) thinks it's going on. It might cost you a few quid having it scanned, but it will save you money in the long run, by not replacing unnecessary, expensive sensors. If you manage to get some fault codes from your vehicle's ECU, then you can research them on google, or by all means get back to me, if you need further assistance. If in the meantime you manage to sort it out, please post your findings on here, so that we can all benefit from each other. Good luck. Joe

    Hi Joe. My ECU only shows that my glow plugs are faulty which i probably disagree due to the fact that i never have any trouble starting in cold weather? I have replaced the air intake sensor which made it work fine for 1 week and then monday and the same thing happened again sometimes when you're driving there is a buzzing noise and on 1 occasion the glow plug light come on turn engine off start up again that fool and come back. I have taken it to a garage they had it for 8 days charged me £468 i took it back they want to start all over again saying is something different 😠 and I walked out. Don't mind paying don't like the idea that someone thinks they can rip me off. Back in the old days i can work it out myself but since they've gone fly by wire could be anything i was thinking of changing turbo sensor but when i saw your clip it sounds very similar to mine. Cheers

  • @JoeNunes345

    @JoeNunes345

    John Beard These vehicles quite often throw up a code for faulty glow plug relays. I wouldn't worry about that too much, especially as the engine starts up ok in cold weather. I don't think changing the turbo sensor, would fix your problem of taking ages to get the revs past 2000rpm. Also, you mention that once it gets past 2000rpm it works fine, so it sounds as though the turbo is working. These faults can be the worst to diagnose, as without any fault codes you basically have no direction as to where to go, so you will have to do a bit of digging. Do the basic things first, i.e, make sure the fuel system, the induction and the exhaust are all in good order and not obstructed in any way Also make sure that the EGR valve is clean (Not Blocked Up) Check the wiring as per the above video. Get the engine running and lightly pull on the various sensor cables and connectors, to see if that makes the engine stall. Another thing to have checked, is you accelerator pedal, to make sure the tracks are not worn, because that would give you running issues. As the garage charged you that amount of money, they should have been able to justify and guarantee their repairs. Did they tell you exactly what was done to the vehicle and the reason why? When you manage to resolve the problem, please let us know what you found out. Cheers, Joe

    Catalin Serbanoiu The first thing you have to do when you encounter a problem with a modern car, which is controlled by computers and electronics, is to have it scanned for fault codes stored in the computer's memory, using a good scanner capable of scanning your vehicle's systems. Unless you do that first, you have no idea as to where to start looking. It is virtually impossible to guess what is wrong with your vehicle, without scanning it first. My advice to you is to have it scanned by someone who knows how to do it properly. I hope this helps. Kind regards, Joe
