    Just a tip young fella ,Always put a rag above the oil sump just in case you drop something it will prevent you from digging it out ,also the spark plug tubes .Very well made video very calm no silly rock music and very well narrated.

    Two days by 5 hours to be exact if u r not in a hurry, and fixing all minor, (potentially future) issues on the way. But the video is tops. I like the calm logical first person view u sync in. And the proper removal and cleaning of oil sink.

    Would you mind explaining what else you changed at the same time? I'm considering replacing the lifters but not camshafts or carrier caps. Anything else worth changing? Cheers :)

    I'm amazed that chain hadn't skipped several teeth, or even snapped, seeing the state of the guides! I've found broken guides are not uncommon on these vvt ecotec engines, even with a good service history. I recommend always to buy a kit that includes a new crankshaft sprocket, as worn teeth on the old one will quickly ruin a new chain, however, the (expensive) cam sprockets don't usually need replacing unless oil changes have been severely neglected. On the new top guide, check the tiny oil hole is clear before fitting. When I do this job I use a large piece of card and poke each bolt from the timing cover through it in sequence as I go. There are several different sizes/ lengths and it's vital not to mix them up. As an aside, Vauxhall have changed the recommended oil spec for these petrol engines. It's now dexos 1 part 2, instead of dexos 2. Mannol do this spec for a good price on the bay.

    Great video, is that oil on the water pump bolts? As noticed on mine there is a tiny amount of oil appearing in the water expansion tank. No exhaust fumes. Just thinking could be coming from the water pump gasket.

    Hi, did a timing chain change for code ‘p0016’ replaced camshaft due to damage on the end where the tool goes, now I’m getting low compression in 3 cylinders, do the cam pulleys need to be set at 12o clock as they were rotated separate to the camshaft?

    Hi Bennie, great video, I think i'll be attempting this in the near future, don't suppose you live anywhere near Chester and fancy helping lol? Seriously though, can you describe the symptoms the car had? On our meriva it basically rattles for like a split second upon startup just as it fires up, sound familiar?

  • @BenniesBritain

    My car would rattle for a good few minutes until the engine gets warm, people standing by would comment that it sounded like a diesel and not a petrol, I do have a video on here of the engine sound kzread.info/dash/bejne/kZ9plJqIiqfVirg.html

    New chain, doesn't sound that much different from mine with 74K on it that I bought last week. Kind of convinces me it hasn't suffered too much wear (log bog says it has had its' oil changed every year). Fingers crossed, I'm going to pamper it for sure.

    Hello Bennie, just about to do the same job and it seems my guides have also shattered, was interested in how you managed to clear out all of the plastic from the sump without actually removing the sump. Cheers for the info mate excellent video.

  • @BenniesBritain

    @BenniesBritain

    Жыл бұрын

    I was going to remove the sump but it looked like the exhaust would have to be removed first, this was something I could not do on my driveway. I drained the oil from the sump then used my Pela extractor pump to remove the small bits of shattered guide, I also used the Pela to clean out the strainer that is built into the sump, it`s where the sump joins the oil pump. Good Luck

    Great vid. But one thing i need to know is; left side of the chain is tightend automatically by the tensioner but the right side tightness just depends on how loose we leave it, there is no tensioner spring. How do we know and arrange the exact looseness on right side?

    The right hand guide rail is located positively by a dowel and only fits in one position. It is not adjustable.

  • @BenniesBritain

    I used "Wynns Black Gasket Maker" to seal the bottom of the timing cover against the sump, this was easier than removing the exhaust and the sump to fit a new gasket

    There are three chances,you didn't lock crank, 2 the chain is slightly bigger, 3 you didn't adjust the VVT cams,old adjustment was meant for old chain

    Why are you blocking the crankshaft pulley?? You have the crankshaft locking pin in so the bolt and pulley are locked…🤔

  • @jasondenton1637
    @jasondenton16375 ай бұрын

    the damage was probably caused by a failed tensioner. the cam timing was not out as the cam bar fitted no problem.you cannot adjust the cam timing without loosening the pulley bolts first and you cannot do this with a chain fitted and the crank locked.nothing will move.its false economy to renew a failed tensioner and not the chain and vice versa after going to all that trouble.if you loosen the pulley bolts on the cams you will need the additional tools to reset everything or your engine may not run properly or fail to start
