Hi
This car came to me as a non runner, crank no start.
A quick scan, revealed a P0685...
What looked to be a bit more complicated, soon after some investigation, was easy repairable...
Hope you enjoy the video.
Any questions or comments put them below.
Like always, thank you for watching!

Great diagnostic skills, however I’m confused why did the car not start initially when you bypassed the main relay ?

Most likely that broken wire was feeding something else required for the engine to start... Thank you for watching and for your comment!

Well, funnily enough..my fault code is P1600 replace ECU..but sometimes the vehicle wont crank but then does..I thought there maybe a connection with what you diagnosed on your vehicle..I cant seem to find schematics on the starting circuit!.. Anyway..my issue...many thanks for your returned messages..take care.

Nice video mate ! I did not have the same issue but i used your diagram for the Simtec MS 75 ECU system (Opel uses more systems). Low voltage to engine ECU - Replace ECU code - Brake lights on all the time. Checked all the powers and had a wire with 2.8 V on it. Corrosion in de taped part next to the connector. Fixed the wire and it runs again. I post this for a future reader with the fault. The break lights go on by the ecu, i think it runs on can low, did not see anything in the can signal. Cheers people !

@@LMAutoRepairs Can I ask a question? You look like a guy good guy. I have an Opel Astra F, from 1996. I keep it in good condition, and I heard noise from the clutch, and transmission. I went to a mechanic, to change the clutch set, and probably the whole transmission, cause its cheaper that way for me. After the oil change and the transmission swap, I have low oil pressure, it lights up, and I can even hear sometimes the engine is dry. Wtf? Is this just a coincidence, that the oil pump just went out right after the fix, or did they fuck up something? Before that, engine was perfect. Sry for long post.

That spindly wire you found external to the loom was much thinner than the manufacturer’s original. Someone fitted that bodge wire to overcome a previous fault, to overcome a poor connection or failure of the original wire. The bodge wire then failed itself ! bringing back the original fault......

Where abouts are you based? I've got a 2009 Astra 1.8 doing exactly the same as this - plus 3 months ago the radiator fan stopped working (it comes on for 5 seconds, then stops and the spanner light comes up on the dash). Local garage has been trying to replace the ecu but having trouble programming replacements. My car now won't start - I've temporarily fixed it by bridging power to fuse 15 - and it starts, but I'd love you to look at it.

Wouldnt it have been faster to check the main relay control wire by putting test light to power and removing relay and checking at control wire pin to see if computer lights test light proving that it is controlling relay rather than unplug computer and finding wire with continuity check?

Im having such a weird issue with my 2007 astra 1.6 sxi. It cranks but wont start 1st try , 2nd try it fires right up. I had code for camshat sensor so i replaced it and it was great for about a week then started doing it again. So i swapped out the NEW top camshaft senor with my old 1 and once again , it started 1st time everytime for about a week and then went back to cranking but no start on 1st turn of the key. It is obvioulsy intermittent but changing out the top camshaft sensor seems to fix it for week or so ???? Im stumped lol....

Hoping someone may see this post and respond. I have an Astra Twintop 1.8l. I was going to switch batteries but did not want to lose the programming information...so I loosened the two main bolts of the battery terminals so I could start the car then switch batteries whilst the engine is running. With the battery terminals loosened I tried to start the car. As I turned the ignition, I heard the starter stuttering because of the loose battery terminals and suddenly the entire vehicle shut down. The battery has power but there is no ignition lights or anything. The Vehicle is completely shut down. What do I do? I cannot even close the electric windows. What has happened?

Hope you have leaned the lesson... The only programming information you would loose, would be the clock and date, possible the radio stations and the windows limits... all easy to resolve, and does not really worth the risk... Anyway, check fuses... if that is all good, there is a possibility that the low or spike voltages have damaged some module... Hope you get it sorted... 👍👍👍
