Vauxhall Corsa e - Buy now or wait for later?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Later in 2023, Vauxhall will facelift the Corsa. But should you bother waiting? Is the car you can currently buy the better option? After all, it is just some new styling, a slightly bigger battery and more powerful motor. Are you better off sticking with the current car? After nearly 3 years since he originally subjected it to the AutoEV road test, Bryan decides to revisit the little Vauxhall to find out if it is still competitive in a market sector that is dwindling - the B-sctor superminis.

My wife leased one of the old models because at the time it was available at only £220 pcm! However she is quite disappointed with it due to poor software, some quality issues and particularly the clueless dealers! The current prices make it totally unrealistic vs BYD, MG and Ora.

This Corsa is nearly twice the price of a petrol version. The electric Astra at £40k is also laughably expensive. You didn't mention that the rear doors are stupidly narrow and there's a massively wide sill to get your legs across making this definitely a young person's car because older people would struggle in both the front and back. Second hand Corsa EVs are currently really cheap because they're just not special enough, so expect your new car to depreciate by about £500 every month over 3 years, especially as Vauxhall only have enough faith in their engineering to give that long as a guarantee. The Asian brands have presented a challenge which Vauxhall have decided to ignore. They will surely suffer for their greed.

Really enjoyed the review as my Corsa (21 plate Elite Nav Premium) sits between the 2 reviews you've done. Fair comments about the indicators and brakes although you quickly get used to them both but suspect jumping from many different cars as you do the difference is more noticeable. Centre armrest (top) does slide forward and the drivers instrument view can be changed by twisting the end of the indicator stalk. The centre display for temperature is for overriding the auto function so most of the time it's not needed. As another comment mentioned, winter range isn't great (120) but in summer 170 - 180 on trips from W Yorkshire to either cost, Norfolk and Scotland and I've had just over 200 too. I chose the Corsa because it met my needs and, at the time, B sector car choices were, and still are to a certain extend, limited. Would I have another, probably yes, but not at that price point, even if it meant having to go up a car size. (Astra prices are rumoured to be upwards of £40k so not sure they're reading the room)

Yeah, there is no way this can compete with the BYD dolphin on cheap and practical EV. Now the Peugots at least have really nice interiors but this doesn't have anything to compete on that level. There is also the Volvo EX30 sister car of the Smart #1 that is an established brand in Europe that this cannot compete with.

Vauxhall will have to slash their prices at point of sale to compete on any level. They will, I assume, but this won't be enough to save the brand when the Chinese come in numbers.

I am an American who visits England often. This March I am renting a Corsa E from Hertz. # 1 reason for my renting an E veh is the Auto transmission and with Hertz (almost) renting the vehicle to me for free. U Brits love your manual transmissions, while the rest of us are driving automatics. Automatics makes it easier to negotiate the dreadful driving on the (left) wrong side of the road and negotiating traffic circles every other block.

I have one of the first production cars and could only take delivery after the first lockdown. I don’t agree with the comments about the brakes or the comment that “it’s just a Corsa” I also like the styling it’s plain and functional. As for the price, it struggles against cars from China but it is not fair to compare the top priced Corsa against a bottom of the range e Niro or a new Kona. A top spec car from either of those will set you back well over 40k. I absolutely love the way I can drive up to traffic lights and leave everything behind. I have embarrassed many a BMW and the odd Aston Martin driver because they thought “it’s just a Corsa”. Zero to 30 in under 3 seconds is shifting. My only gripe is the battery size and an extra 10% isn’t good enough for me. Battery performance in really cold weather isn’t good either. Range drops like a brick and charging speed when cold is terrible. Vauxhall have undated my software so efficiency is much improved in Milder weather. On a recent trip to Scotland I was getting 3.8 miles / kW at 65 to 70 and cruising on B roads and country lanes I was getting up to 5 m/kWh. Not bad at all. I live in Lancashire so London, Bristol, Glasgow and Edinburgh are about 200 miles away. These are out of range. My next car will have a bigger battery so I am seriously looking at the MG4. If there was a 65kWh Corsa I would buy it.

❤I drive an e208GT (company car) in the nice red shown here, which would have been £35k to buy myself. IMHO it beats the Corsa e in every aspect - most definitely better looking and I think better driving (I did try a Corsa). Both quite small cars though in the back and both overpriced. I can’t see myself getting another small Stellantis car over something like an MG4 when they are £5K to £7k more for a smaller car and less range. Then there’s as you say other Chinese competitors and the Kia’s, ID3’s, Megane e-Tech etc etc. Sorry but this is way down the list now and needs either a complete new design or a big price drop. Only caveat to this is the Jeep Avenger as that looks gorgeous and my wife might trump my more sensible choices as she absolutely loves it!

Stellantis need to up their game. Most of their models are compliance cars, they need to develope an EV platform. Once the Chinese cars appear in numbers then Stellantis could end up being history. The Corsa is a boring, overpriced compliance car and even the new facelift model does nothing to change this. Bryan is really working hard with this review.

I have a Corsa 20 plate Elite Nav Primium Auto, and I have to say it has been the most unreliable car I've ever owned! The list of failures has been enormous, but software bugs have been the worst, and the dealers are pretty much clueless. Now I've just watched this review, and the price, is this a joke? Have Vauxhall not heard of Tesla? The Tesla Model 3 is priced at £39,990 and that's a 2024 refreashed model! Vauxhall and its parent company Stellantis, are not long for this world. I shell be getting rid of my Corsa soon and will never set foot in a Vauxhall showroom again... Bye bye Vauxhall, it's been nice knowing you, rest in peace .........................
