1. (Dr. Hagelin:) Maharishi, this question from the United Kingdom, from a reporter in Kent. A proposal was announced in the Times in Great Britain yesterday to build a new town in South East England in order to relieve the extreme pressure of housing and congestion in London. The consortium behind the report is asking advice from all quarters on how best to proceed with planning the new City. What advice would Maharishi have for them?
2. Maharishi: Vastu Building. Vastu is a system of constructing homes and constructing the villages according to ancient Vedic architecture.
3. One of the features of the building is that the entrance should be in the direction of the rising sun. Rising sun is supposed to be the healthiest rays of the sun.
4. The purpose of Sthapatya Veda is to have a connection between the Cosmic, infinite, unbounded potential of life, and the individual level of it. Vedic Architecture means architecture which takes into account total field of knowledge, and total field of knowledge is that which connects the individual life with Cosmic life.
5. Vastu is a supremely intelligent guided cosmic design. Design includes orientation, lengths and heights, and how many doors and windows, and so forth.
6. Vedic Architecture is a Veda in itself, having the knowledge of "Establishing." You establish a thing so that the thing in its isolated boundaries is not dislocated with the unbounded, infinite, boundless Nature of Life.
7. This unseen quality of structuring life is the Transcendental value of existence, which is in the field of Transcendental Consciousness. TC is my field. So Vedic Architecture also comes within the range of my expertise.
8. Maharishi defines Vedic Architecture as the architecture that maintains connectedness of the individual potential with the Cosmic potential.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is widely regarded as one of the foremost scientists in the field of consciousness.
