Thank you Briana! I'm so glad the video was helpful! Varnishing is a simple process, but I've found many people are intimidated by it. I hope this helps a lot of people save a lot of time and effort. :)

Thanks for the video! I’ve been using Gamvar for the last 6 months for the reasons you stated. My question is this: After 6 months or so, is it ok to varnish with Windsor & Newton gloss varnish over the top of Gamvar, or does the Gamvar need to be removed first?

I think she just uses a mix of gamsol and linseed oil which is not fast drying, as she said though the varnish she uses it doesn't need the painting to be completely dry

You need to have the painting fully dry like 5- 8 weeks before putting the Grumbacher varnish . My famous uncle that’s a artist him self told me . Also you need a mask and gloves that’s proper. As a self taught artist born with a disability called microcephaly for a long time sence a toddler this year things happened to me with varnish like that even the varnish in a spray , things happen that’s supper SCARRY. I had bad headaches that I felt like dieing and I never had that headache sence birth a long time and I used a mask but not proper. The poison from the bottle varnish and the spray varnish or any varnish like that still got to me and my mother have to sleep with my me and I have to see a doctor until I’m better . This is why artist gone crazy . 😜 😢 It would be very nice that people telling others about varnish and scary risk by telling them to wear protective gear and you all should be doing that as well in videos. A lot of people that claim there Artist when they started when there 6 or 14 or 23 or 50 late don’t talk about this stuff and they need to when it comes with dangerous chemicals. You all need to talk about protective wear and what to use 2:30

Quick varnishing, i.e. quicker than 6 months at minimum, is NOT a good idea. This is just bad advice - not only yours, but also Gamblin's.

@@chevypower1930 It's the fact that I do understand what Gamvar is that I don't trust it for early use as a varnish. You shouldn't make assumptions about others whom you don't know, or the experience they may have, which you also don't know.

Varnish and not the same thing as retouch varnish. You need 6 months to a year for oil to dry before you can varnish, but you can use the retouch varnish when the surface is dry, that means all layers do not have to dry before using retouch. With retouch, the painting will contiue to dry and can be paited again on top of it. It's just to protect the painting from dust and debris so you can ship it quicker to customers without having to wait a year or 6 months. Customers will have to do the finishing varnish after a couple of years, and hopefully they are told when they get the painting with retouch.
