Let's put Direct Material Cost Variance under the microscope, just as the dir price variances are multiplied by the AQ; you'd expect the dir usage variance to also be multiplied by the AP instead it was multiplied by SP. It's a formula we can all absorb but what's the theory or practical reason behind that?
