If Fetch has smartphone capabilities in the 80's, I don't think waterproofing is that hard to imagine being another feature of his tbh.

The lines "Wait what was that, a dog attacked? Gotta protect my friend" Indicates the reason why Fetch killed the dog, it was because the dog attacked the kid. And then when the kid texted his crush saying that he wish he could see her, Fetch responded with "Will retrieve" meaning that he brought the kid crush to him

Vapor, it wasn't his mother that Fetch brought back to him. It was the girl he had a crush on. The one line when he's being buried says "want me to fetch your crush I'll be glad" which indicates who it was. P.S. You can read the book fetch but as long as you don't know the science how fetch works it makes no sense.
