Submersible pumps have to be covered by the water as it has no other means of cooling. It uses the water to cool the motor.

I notice you don't have a float switch, did you remove your's, if so are they easily removed? I've just bought a cast iron 3/4 HP 5020 GPH pump for my system along with a marine extractor to take away smog caused by blasting, saw this in another video and it work's great.

Thank you for posting this Build. Pardon my ignorance, but can you explain how the pedal controls both the air and the pump? I can understand a foot activated air valve, and I can understand a foot activated on switch, but how are they both ran off of the same foot control, or are they?

That's a vent for the pump that lets air out. It squirts just a small amount of water and doesn't make a mess. If the air doesn't come out, the pump will not prime up. Works fine.

Great job , would having your bypass hose pointing around your container make the bead (heavier) move to the outside with centrifugal force ? maybe pointing it straight down ? , I think at the moment the word wet or vapour blast is creating a Gold rush for the companies making them , sure good ones are make of Stainless and have a water pump and a few extras , but a dry blast cabinet might cost $ 2000 usd but a wet blast one will cost $ 15-20,000 , crazy .

The bypass tubes are more accurately agitation tubes. I see what your saying, but that doesn't seem to be what's happening in mine. It does a very good job of mixing the glass evenly with the water. It really gets the beads off the bottom and stirred well. Thanks for the thoughts.

Simple, east build! About to build one of these, have a 8mm nozzle, similar pump....I know you mentioned 40psi but what CFM are you running from the compressor.

I think my 60 gallon five hp does 11 cfm @ 40 psi, and 9 cfm @ 90 psi. You need to size the air jet to match your compressor. It needs as much as a dry blast cabinet uses. I run between 40 - 60 psi.

@@Adam_Warso The 15 @ 60 should work just fine. I can run non stop with mine and the compressor runs the whole time, but shuts off in a few seconds when I stop blasting. My air jet is perfect.

No improvements at all. The agitation works great, I still use the same gun as in the videos. I just need to get more glass beads to refill the mix.

@@keremustunkaya9650 The pumps impeller is up inside the base of the pump. So the media is not able to get to it at first. The media is so small, that when you add water, it mixes up very fast as the pumps kicks on and starts to stir up the water. Hope that helps.

Hi Dynodon64, I'm still trying to figure out why you selected a high volume pump? 4500 GPH or thereabouts seems like overkill since your only pumping upwards of no more than 3 feet and reducing the output flow from 1 1/2" or thereabouts to 5/8" hose? what would be the disadvantage of using a low volume pump say under 1000 GPH?

The first pump I used wasn't high enough flow or pressure, but it worked until the seals gave out. This higher flow pump works a lot better. You need a high flow because most of the flow is directed into the glassbead/water mix to stir it up. You need to get the glass beads mixed well with the water. That is why there are two hoses in the bottom of the tank.

@@Dynodon64 So I'm guessing even a pump around 2000GPH should be sufficient and if not perhaps reduce the hose size for the slurry mix hose to agitate it hopefully that should be adequate. It did seem like overkill with such a high volume pump to perform a simple task. thanks for the quick reply! Cheers!

It seems as though you didn't really test this before you did the video and you are in doubt as to whether your setup is working or not. Correct? I actually think you have too much bypass there with those two big 1 inch hises in the bucket and not enough pressure coming out of the gun because all of the pressure is being released through them.

Yes there was too much bypass going through the two hoses. That's why I put a restrictor in both hoses. That took care of the surge. Now the system works great. Love using the machine.

What size of glass beads do you use? 100-300 microns?

Building a similar unit and I have the same weird pulsation at the nozzle. Im wondering if its not the air making its way in the slurry line. I'm thinking of adding a check vamve on the waterline. But it might be the gun also. Did you figured out the source of the problem?

I had to reduce the size of the hose outlet for the slurry mix hoses. I used sand blast gun nozzles in the ends of the two slurry mix hoses. Just went smaller until the pulsing stopped.

@@Dynodon64 ok thanks for the input. Did pretty much the same built, same pump and hose size but for some reason, air is fighting against the slurry flow and i dont get slurry out of the gun. I'm thinking the issue here is my nozzle size (4mm). Having it bigger would allow more air out throught the nozzle and less going in the slurry hose. What nozzle size do you have? Thanks again!!

@@jeromemorin4016 There should not be any air going back in the slurry hose when the gun is spraying. My air jet inside the blast gun is 4mm. The nozzle on the gun is 8mm. The nozzles in the slurry hoses that mix up the water and glass beads are 6mm each. I run @ 50 psi of air pressure and my system works great. You should make a video so I can see your set up to help you get it working better. Seeing how you have yours plumbed up will help me troubleshoot yours.

Both item were bought off of Ebay. The pump is 4300 GPH and are listed as 1-1/5 HP submersible. Here's an item number for one listed. 362088268827 Just put this number in the search bar on Ebay. The nozzles are all over there as well. Just search for sand blast nozzle or gun.

FYI, the pulsating air can cause your compressor pressure regulator switch to go haywire and fail. Ask me how I know, hahaha.

I use 25 pounds of media to 5 gallons of water. So a 50 pound bag would use 10 gallons of water.

They are non destructive, like sand blasting or even glass beading. It has more of a polishing effect, and returns part to like new look.

That was a door mat I found at a hardware store. I had to put support braces under it , because it was too flimsy. It is really hard to find something to use for that shelf. Good luck.

5Hp 60 gallon. You need a big compressor capable of at least 15 cfm or more at the pressure you want to blast at. Like 40-60 psi.

Hey DynoDon… wondering how your pump is performing? I bought the same pump and it didn’t last long it’s very fine garnet. I’m guessing it chewed out the seal and water got into the motor. Is yours still alive?

Just because a pump is labeled submersible, doesn't mean it has to be submersed. This pump comes with a float switch that shuts off the pump when the water level is below the top of the pump. Submersible, just means it is able to be fully submersed. Not that it has to be.

In one of my earlier videos I go into the CFM needed.Off hand I don't remember. I would guess that it needs @10-12 CFM. The blast nozzle air jet determines the CFM needed. The air jet is inside the gun. I had to make a smaller one to work with my compressor. Most of these types of nozzles need at a minimum of a 5hp compressor to work well.

I know your video has been out for a while now and I am actually about to start converting my HF cabinet this week but I am just curious what the function of the check valve is on this setup and why you need one? I can't imagine the pump is going to lose prime...
