Vanwall Vandervell 680 LMH in action at Monza Circuit: Gibson V8 Sound, Crackles & Accelerations!

This video is fully focused on the Vanwall Racing Team, former ByKolles Racing, Le Mans Hypercar/LMH-class contender: the Vandervell 680, named after Vanwall founder Tony Vandervell.
The car was designed and developed entirely in-house at the Vanwall Racing Team base in Greding, Germany with the original plan to be a non-hybrid Le Mans Hypercar powered by a naturally-aspirated Gibson GL458 LMP1 engine and intended to debut the car during the 2021 season. The team had to abandon this idea for a more powerful unit when Aston Martin committed to the class with its 1,160 hp Valkyrie hypercar. However, following Aston's subsequent withdrawal and the announcement that LMH power levels will be reduced and balanced, the team went back to its original plan of using the Gibson engine, which produces around 680 hp.

    ​​@@fisma6441the Gibson engine can make up to 900hp, it's the same engine that was in the rebellion r-13 when it was still an lmp1 car back in 2020 that was later detuned to fit hypercar hp regs when the car was renamed alpine in 2021. It makes plenty of power. The problem that the vanwall was having so far this season with the engine is that it keeps overheating and losing power, down to bad cooling.

    ​@@Donster2it never was able to run 900hp. Its limited to 700HP max and runs in endurance trim 680hp I believe. Due to the lack of cooling the Vanwall is also 50 hp down.

    They aren’t even struggling relative to the LmP1 days. Right now they are about a second off the Peugeots in qualifying, whereas in the P1 days they were as much as 10 seconds off total pole at Le Mans. Many of their issues stem from cooling and reliability rather than raw pace, they can’t actually run the engine to full power most of the time. They have less development capabilities too.

    Well just like Glickenhaus, the car is underdeveloped compared to other Hypercar entries with massive budgets. That's to be expected from a privateer entry with budget constraints being the problem. But don't think about comparing them to Isotta, another privateer with a major manufacturer-like budget

    ​@@restautamaFor me Glickenhaus just lack of hybrid system they were good on reliability. If that car have Evo spec of the aero package and hybrid system on the pipo engine they will be fighting alongside Toyota & Ferrari

    This team, which we will refer to here by the name ByKolles rather than Vanwall, has a lot going for it, even though they have not had a particularly successful racing career in the past. First of all, they have the mysterious and unknown source of funds to compete in all the WEC races, secondly, they have the perseverance to finally be approved as a hypercar constructor, which even the uninitiated could not expect to be granted, and finally, they have the ability to create cars that somehow have a mysterious appeal. This machine also lowers the BoP of the hypercar class, thus reducing the performance inflation of the hypercar class. This is the very existence that makes "sustainable racing" possible.

    or from another perspective this team, which should be referred to as ByKolles rather than Vanwall at all times, has nothing going for it. they have had some of the worst racing history in the past. First of all, they have only finished Le Mans twice in 11 years, and one of those two times they were disqualified. Secondly. Their mysterious and unknown money source is rumored to be a money laundering scheme because no team should be able to survive this long while not even finishing HALF their WEC races they have entered thus far. thirdly, they have attempted to use an existing trademark to get into the hypercar regulations as a manufacturer, adding onto their long list of court cases ranging from not paying their engine supplier, to allegedly trying to blackmail Toto Wolff. amd finally they have the ability to create cars that are better suited to provide heat due to their tendency of spontaneous combustion. This machine does not lower the BoP of the hypercar class, as it hasn't even managed to reach the weight and power limits listed in the BoP table This is the very existence of a team, that should not compete in a World Championship unless it puts heavy development into the car to make it even remotely competitive. it does not lower the BoP as it isn't even capable to be within the BoP limits.

    @@Zanion nothing about money laundry and all that shady bs that people made up, the founder Collin Koles is billonaire, the founder of Colgate tooth pastry, wich is a brand as big as Coca cola, money is not a problem for him, is not that this operation is something like the clowns on Glickenhaus wich cried every race and even skipped rounds because "we dont have interest in countries where our products don't sell" ZERO compromise with the championship. Ok this team is short on resources, development and all, but at least have the passion for going to every race on the calendar and don't cry about budget...

    @@Zanionactively rooting against privateer teams is unsportsmanlike and goes against the spirit of the competition. Who cares how slow they are, or how their funding is achieved (the laundering rumours are baseless). As long as there is space for them on the grid they should be allowed.

    @@motorsportfan1246 I'm a big fan of privateers, but I have a personal agenda against teams who genuinely should not be on the grid. these include cars that are far too slow for their class and teams illegally using brands already owned by another entitiy

    Joke or not, this car is pretty much an LMP2 with an LMH shape. It even uses an LMP2 Gibson engine rather than a custom one made for Rebellion R13 or later Alpine A480. So no wonder if this car's performance range is on par to LMP2s

    Io non ho ancora capito se, tra i tantissimi problemi che hanno, riescono a sfruttare tutti i 520 kw che gli concede il bop (circa 707 cv). Quantomeno il sound è molto bello e a dal vivo si distingue molto bene anche dalle lmp2, peccato che il loro passo sia più da P2 che non da Hypercar

    Bykolles team says that the radiators aren’t able to provide adequate cooling for the gibson lmp2 engine so they are about 60 hp down

    Somehow I feel that Gibson engine is not so suitable for Vanwall. Somehow it needs better & more powerful unit. Judd or AER maybe.

    This engine is probably the most reliable thing on the grid and they still managed to blow it at Le Mans. They even got outqualified by an actual LMP2 in Fuji. Seems like Vanwall/ByKolles only made a slightly worse LMP2 that somehow found its way in the Hypercar class

    God forbid they go back to AER, only way to absolutely make sure it finishes zero races is to use an AER twin turbo. With this P2 engine they have a chance to actually finish one race

    They deserve one more year. Glickenhaus got time, Peugeot had awful performance and got time. Without privateers this sport loses some of its charm.
