Do you have any link of engine sound before you changed Vanos solenoids ?

Well done video!! Have you replaced your timing chains and guides? I heard the "startup rattle" which is usually TCG's and or Vanos units that need to be rebuilt or replaced. Love the E38's....i own one myself and have owned two of them over the last 18 years.

Did you get codes for the solenoids? I have a 32 and 33 code for bank 1 and 2 being over-advanced on timing. Timing chains have been done about 60k km ago with genuine parts. Changed chain tensioner recently, VANOS hasn't been done. I also have rough idle and tapping noises, I did change the gaskets of the solenoids as they were very oily, and now the new ones are the same. Any chance my issue is the same?

I know it's a year later, hope she is running good 4 you. but it sounds like you are inline 4 a timing chain guide replacement. unfortunately this is a weak point for these engines. you are getting a slight rattle or tapping sound. that might be timing chin guides

Where did u get the 32mm socket. I know the 1/2 don’t fit it got to be longer. I have one and it doesn’t fit.
