Small town BC is where it's at for sure and this turned out to be a really fun vlog to film, but it sure didn't go the way I was expecting it to. Just a simple vanlife day in New Denver - fighting wasps and searching washrooms!

My name is Matthew and I live in a van. I lost my job due to "cut backs" from the pandemic of 2020 and decided to seriously restructure my life. I am also a single dad who needed to find a solution that would allow me to remain in my daughter's life and plan for her future. After tons of research into #vanlife, I knew it was for me.
From March 2021 until October 2021 I spent my days building out my Chevrolet Express 2500, which came to be known as "Lucky" and as of October 18, 2021 I have been living in Lucky full time.
The build was done with almost no experience on my end and I used the one incredible tool I had at my disposal - the internet - to learn what I needed to build Lucky into a very comfortable tiny home.
I have always had a bit of a passion for being in front of the camera and really enjoy capturing the world around us. This really played into how I was feeling after almost a year of working from home when I "commuted" from the bedroom to the couch. I was starting to feel extremely unhealthy, unmotivated and despondent. I HATED that, and that's not a word I like to throw around. This new lifestyle gives me opportunities I just didn't have before and I am so excited to be able to share it all with you.
I truly believe we all have the capabilities to turn our lives around, should we choose to do so - and if I can inspire you to shoot for something better then I have done a decent job and that will keep me going.
There is more to life than the consume, consume, spend, spend lifestyle I feel we have all been conditioned to follow and I just want to do the best I can for myself first and foremost. Our time is limited and I do not want to waste another second on a lifestyle that doesn't bring me joy!

Soooo close yet so far!! I'm sure Sarah has told you all that happened (we used a paper map!!) GPS who?!?. I'm truly heartbroken i didn't get to meet up with you and the ladies. I kept hoping something would happen to change things but.... We even called out Penny and Stellis names ... 😢 I got to enjoy Odins Pub that night and Greer Park the next morning. BEAUTIFUL and worth the trip into town. I took every step you took around that park! I felt like we were in the Lake house movie lol😊. I hope you enjoy your shirt in my honor Matthew. Short Story: I was cooking something (think it involved whipped cream) in the kitchen a few years back. My cat Queenie was sitting on the chair at the island watching while I prepared the food. Suddenly a bee or wasp appeared out of nowhere between us. I gasped, but Queenie like lightening got it and I assume gulped it down. It was nowhere to be found afterwards. Being on an acreage just west of Carstairs, she has also come across garter snakes...they play dead however and she loses interest.
Love the way penny talks to you when you talk to her 😁
You should do a treasure hunt for subscribers - stickers put in a specific spot.

That town was a ghost town. I hardly seen any people. Scary. I was looking forward to meeting some new people too. Maybe another day. Your daughter sounds so precious. The Harley parking signs on the former Valhalla Pure Outfitters building are not referencing Harley-Davidson motorcycles. The signs are actually an inside joke referencing the owners of VPO. David Harley started the company that franchises the name and also owns the New Denver store. Richard Harley owns and operates two stores on Vancouver Island and Michael Harley used to own the Vernon store until he sold it. I used to deal with all three brothers when I was an outdoor gear sales rep in western Canada. Now you know.

@Pammy it was messed with but placed back on the wall. When we saw it on patreon, the tape was horizontal and when Sarah grabbed it, she said it was vertical and the end were wrinkled. The good thing is she got them! We were a few hrs late. We were able to watch the lens clips when we got some wifi!

@@royourownboat I think Matthew said that there was no one around, that all was quite. But I think in small towns, there are ALWAYS people at home who check out the window at the slightest sound standing behind a curtain and watch what a stranger to the town is doing….

No cell service and our international roaming didn't work as soon as we entered. So bought a paper map and hauled ass but about 4hrs too late. We found the sticker!!
Turn key on 3sec (don't crank) do this 3 times on 4th time crank .if no problem you're losing fuel pressure.

In BC the liquor stores are run by the provincial government. They are only open certain days of the week.

I wonder if you could 'hard pipe' it with pvc or abs plastic pipe and a ninety or whatever you would need to get the angle (put the unit's pipe inside of it?) It would depend where you are venting it out at how you coulld do it.

Cats and Dogs can get car sick, just like people...children. Withholding food for 12 hours prior to travel and while travelling help reduce symptoms...including vomiting.

Hey Matt, do you have the curtain behind you on an electronic device that opens and closes your curtain (maybe it was Penny or Stella) however at the end of your video when you are saying your good-byes, your curtain behind you opened to the right and it seemed odd since you were engrossed in doing something else, lol spooky, you really were ghosted!

Wasps. Ack. But then, they are part of the pollinator group. So when they sting me for no f'n reason - I have to remember that - lol! Those cats are lovely as usual. We came in from the US and our cell phones stopped working...no internet, txt, calling...we had to find a paper map just to find our way. My bank even froze my accounts. I was just sad Rocio didn't get to meet Matthew face to face...but more she didn't get to hold Penny 😢
