    Great demonstration video! I appreciate that you explained all the other gear used in the demo, and that you played the same licks back-to-back with a "reference" mouthpiece most people are familiar with. I also like that you actually play-tested the mouthpiece the same way I would have if I was trying it out - full range chromatic, altissimo, low end articulation, etc. The band/orchestra side of KZread needs more gear videos like this. Cheers!

    That's the result of breathing with youre diaphram, most people breath from there shoulders, this give less air and oxygene to the body

    The Vandoren Ap gives off a more darker tone than the Selmer S90 190 which i am surprised at. I cant wait to get my hands on one of these and try it out!!!!

    You sound good!! I have also been playing on a 190 and I love it. The profile sounds good too! I want to give it a shot. If I can get my hands on a few of them, I would like to see what my students think. The profile might be exactly what they are looking for. Thanks for the video! I'll share it with my studio.

    The Vandoren had a much sweeter core to it. Selmer was a little abrasive in the High G to F in comparison. The Vandoren was smoother and balanced. However, when you played the Glazanov I could here the cello qualities and confidence on the Selmer better. A little more time and the Vandoren might shape to your control and bring more life to the legit pieces. They all sounded great on the Vand. The Glaz was the only one that I noticed the richer sound on the Selmer. Kind of strange

    i’m curious about this now, i have a claude delangle and it’s good and all don’t get me wrong, but my sound could be more. im going to go try an s90 190, AP3, and concept and see which one i like the most.

    I don’t quite get why you prefer S90 over the Concept. I’ve played the SA80, SA90 each for many years on a Selmer sax, but the Concept just gives so much more transparency and evenness across the range. Also, have you tried the Chedeville and new Rousseau pieces?

  • @heaneymusic

    Thanks for your question! I personally find the Concept too “monochromatic” and not quite flexible enough for the types of music I am playing (mostly contemporary classical). I also do not care for the degree of resistance in the Concept. I have not had the opportunity to try those yet, but I would like to.

    @@heaneymusic thanks for your thoughts. I have Chedeville pieces on alto 3* and tenor 4 as an alternative to the Concept. I currently use it as a crossover piece, but in a smaller tip opening (3) it could work well as a purely classical piece. Lots of warmth, clarity and personality, as opposed to the coolness and smoothness of the Concept.

    I close my eyes and can’t differentiate much, except Selmer can project the sound better.

    @Joshua Heaney How do the daddario reserve reeds compare to the traditional vandorens?

  • @heaneymusic

    @heaneymusic

    4 жыл бұрын

    Sebastian They’re both “classical” reeds (whatever that means) with a thick heart, thin tip, and French file. People debate about which brand is more consistent but I have had better luck with D’Addario. Also, I really like that they offer a 3.0+ strength, which is ideal for me. You really should play them bitter to get a better picture of any differences in tone, response, etc... the proof will be found in the playing.

    would you recommend a s90 180 for selmer series 2 alto saxophone? And what Is the differece with AL3?

  • @heaneymusic

    @heaneymusic

    2 жыл бұрын

    The S90 180 is a good mouthpiece and should work just fine with your Series 2! It is completely different to an AL3... square chamber instead of round, a bit bigger tip opening, different facing curve.

    rloomis3 I unfortunately did not have my soprano with me to try the SP3, big oversight on my part! I normally play a Selmer S90 170 on a Selmer Series III soprano.

    Do you have any resources for reed adjustment?

  • @heaneymusic

    @heaneymusic

    4 жыл бұрын

    Sebastian Good question. I don’t do much reed adjustment myself but occasionally will flatten the back of warped reeds with sandpaper or a Reedgeek. I’ve leaned toward the idea that if you find yourself constantly adjusting reeds, perhaps the cut isn’t the best fit for you or the strength is too hard.
