Vancouver Island motorcycle adventure - Ep. ‎3️⃣

This is the third and final part of my summer motorcycle adventure around Vancouver Island, Canada on my Honda CB500X.
Part 1: • Island Vibes: a solo m...
Part 2: • Wild moto camping with...
It was such a beautiful trip and I'm really thankful for all the great memories and the opportunity to explore such incredible places and spend time with my friend ‪@RosieGabrielle‬, but as you'll see from this video, motorcycle camping and being in the elements does take a toll.
Thanks so much for watching and coming along for the ride. You guys make the effort worthwhile!

    It is so important to watch out for fatigue an exhaustion be it mental and/or physical especially when riding a motorcycle and then act accordingly. I have seen too many things go wrong when these factors were ignored. That is a very important message in your video.

    Thank you, Megan, for such a wonderful video. Yes! You made the right decision. You should listen to your body and when it's too tired, that is a signal to get some rest at home. Riding a motorcycle, especially on a long trip with lots of gear, requires one to be physically fit, have good emotional stability, and a high level of mental awareness. Being overly fatigued means you lose some of all three, and that can make for an unsafe trip. It's all about having fun and coming home in one piece! So, you made the right call. Also, you have the most beautiful smile in the world. It just makes my day. Much love to our sister Canada from the USA!!

    Thanks Megan. That was a terrific series you just finished with this video. I'm glad you headed home for a rest when your body told you it was time. I can't imagine being in a tent trying to sleep and hearing something breathing outside. It's horrible that someone would leave raw meat just laying around, and really dangerous for campers too with all the wildlife here in Canada. Please stay safe my friend!! Here we are deep into the rainy and cold season in Vancouver, so any rides for me will be short ones to keep fresh gas in the carbs and some charge in the battery. I hope for some longer rides when the weather gets better, but am too chicken to use a tent. There has to be some cheapish motels out there where I can sleep better and still not break the bank. I really really hope I can do a southern Ontario trip to visit family next summer, but that's yet to be seen.

  • @MeganKaptein

    @MeganKaptein

    Tim, it was certainly an unnerving experience. Covid has been a game changer for hotels/motels locally during the summer. It seemed like everybody wanted to get away and almost all of the campsites and accommodation on the island were fully booked while I was there. Some advance planning might mitigate that risk in your case...

    Ms. Kaptein, before my birth my parents spent a couple of years at RCAF Station Holberg, at the north end of the Vancouver Island. My Dad was a Vancouver native; he served as an RCAF F-86 pilot during the Cold War. He was grounded for medical reasons and finished his RCAF hitch on the Pine Tree line. Prior to that stint in Holberg Dad did some training at the USAF airbase in Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. My folks fell in love with AZ; I was born and raised there. I've never been to Vancouver Island; I've known it only from my parents' stories. I enjoy Vancouver and BC vicariously through your videos, and this video series was a *real* treat. I hope you'll hit the north end of the island next time around. Who knows, maybe I'll grow a wild hair and motor up someday myself on the ol' DR! BTW, Dad's watchword for any campsite was always, "Leave it better than you found it." The last thing we'd do at any campsite was police up any trash, and make some small improvement - collect some firewood, enhance the fire ring, improve drainage at a tent site, whatever. I've found that to be a pretty good rule for life in general. Leave it better than you found it! Be safe, have fun, and thanks again for your videos! :-)

    Thanks for watching and sharing your comment, Tracy. Your parents sound like fine folks with good tastes in environments (I'm a big fan of AZ as well.) I rode from Port Hardy on another trip and it was a really beautiful. I would certainly love to go back and explore sometime in the future. Your DR sounds like the perfect machine for it--maybe I'll see you there? 😊

    Great video. Touring on the road & motorcycle camping for long periods of time does take its toll on the body. But most of all the time & dedication spent on producing quality videos can be draining. Rest up & there is always another day or time where you can continue. Thanks for sharing your journey & thoughts.

    Nice video Megan. I guess I have some more exploring to do on the island. It's been so many years since I've been there and we only hit the highlights. Clearly it's time to get off the beaten path. Thanks for the push to go west again.

    Motorbike camping can be a little hard work, I get it from staggering around in the pitch dark to go to the bathroom (I use that word loosely) to not always being able to get a hot shower and a comfortable sleep or we'll rounded meal, it's great fun but takes a bit out of you, I usually break trips up with a hotel every few nights maybe end of the week, not the cheapest I know but gives you something to mark on your trip calendar and let's you go a bit further and longer. Still a great feeling when you are heading home with another adventure under your belt. Can't wait for your next one, happy biking.

    Absolutely, Steve. I generally share that mentality, but this year it was nuts with covid. All the hotels and campsites were booked solid, and with Rosie and I both being non-planners, we literally had no options but to wild camp.

    I totally hear you on the fatigue Megan. Personally its more mental than physical. But Its always great to have something to come back to. I always feel happy to go, to be away, to go home and be home. After a few weeks or months I get really anxious to get to travel again though. Always want to hit that travel vibe full blast again in march or when temps are above 10C-ish

    Thank you Megan from all of us viewers, for enduring the hardships, as well as enjoying the benefits of riding in your beautiful country. Without you, we would not get to see such beautiful places. As for the `people` ( I can think of other words not allowed here) that drop their rubbish there, they don`t deserve to have the privilege of visiting such places.
