VAN TOUR after 2 YEARS OF FULL-TIME VAN LIFE | So many changes!

My self-built home has changed A LOT in the last few years! This van tour focuses on each upgrade, why I installed or built it, and how it's currently going.
I'm falling more in love with my custom cabin on wheels with each little upgrade!

We are Linnea and Akela. Through the van build, I used my stubbornness and drive to show individuals that they, too, can convert a campervan by themselves and on a budget, with a lot of learning, rolling up the sleeves, and getting to work.
Our goal is to inspire individuals to chase their dreams... to break from societal limitations and live the life they truly desire.

I think you are a very special person. Both naturally beautiful, intelligent and intuitive about the way you live your life. You are impressive. You must have very good parents. My husband and I lived in a big camper with our two young children. My husband planted trees and cut trees for a forestry company. I taught my older child on the road. Every day living in the wilderness we realized the incredible joy we experienced in nature. In my 30’s I became a nurse. But the years we lived in our camper are our best memories.

--- You SHOULD be happy & PROUD of your build, Linnea!!! I've been following you since May 2021, when I made the jump to van life. I'm 71 years YOUNG, fit - feisty - adventurous! You remind me sooo much of me when I was in my late 30's, way back in late 1983-87. Had me a Caveman OH camper on a 1985 Chevy 3/4 ton named Spunky, fishin' the forks of the Clackamas River in Clackamas County, Oregon. A relationship in 1987 sidelined my travel dreams until May, 2021 & the 2020 plague lockdown. My Wheel Estate is the Ford Transit 250 Short, a no-build build that has changed 6-7 times over past year... Now I am Oregon State Park Horse Camp host, so I get to be planted somewhere for 2-3 months, providing customer service to my fellow equestrian guests. Anyway, Linnea, give Akila a hug for me; i am owned by a long-haired blonde chihuahua who thinks her inner child is a pit bull... Well, ta ta for now! Happy trails, Ms. CharLee 🙋‍♀ Nikki🐕 Angel 🚐

I'm from northern Wisconsin and know how brutal the winters can be, especially with the lake effect weather conditions. It is not like anywhere else, but maybe, Buffalo NY. My area was next to the Michigan border about 5 miles south of Lake Gitcheegoomee ( sp). I loved how you did everything yourself, if your from this area originally, it's a natural thing for women to take initiative and be independent. At least all the women I know are generally this way. Kudos girl you have done a great job!

As a father to two daughters (25-19) I can't even express how ridiculously adorable you are. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the fact that I'm a hard core (real hard core) prepper and survivalist of 35 years and so are both my girls now. And, oh oh oh, we're next door in Minnesota. I used to own a vacation home in Balsam Lake, Wis as well. Keep up being you. Be safe and always think of what could go wrong so you can prepare ahead. Good on you for all your improvements! The reason your flue builds up crud is in the time it takes to heat the flue when you first restart the stove. To mitigate that, make a starter by putting sawdust in a coffee can and add kerosene to moisten the sawdust well. Use a couple of tablespoons under your kindling. This causes a really hot startup and will greatly decrease the amount of buildup! That's a great tip from Ariel on the FyeNyth channel. She's amazing.

Somehow stumbled on your video. Kudos to you for building your own van and all the upgrades you did. Love the wood stove! And I love the van's rustic homey vibe. Great job! Also enjoyed how you presented it and am impressed by all you have done and who you are. Safe travels!

I love the upgrades! And I 100% agree, building your van yourself is such a great experience. We built our van ourselves and at the end we only had the electrical hook ups and plumbing left. We were so burnt out and wanted someone to do it for us but the quotes were ridiculously high and we couldn’t afford it. I am glad we pushed through and did it ourselves because if something is broken now, we can fix it!

What a capable human being you are. I have watched so many videos of people on the road, but you, young lady, are living, not surviving, big difference. I love your toilet that is ideal, and user friendly. You are passionate about your home, that’s because you built it and you own it and it has evolved with you, so the changes work with you, not against you. Well done. To top that off your a really lovely person with a beautiful dog. Safe travels.

I so love the cabin-feel of your build, and the fact that you did it all yourself. I think you are so right about the advantages of understanding how everything was put together because it's DIY. I also think the aesthetic is so real and cozy. I get bored when a build is or looks pre-fab - so bland! It's clear to see that you are living authentically according to your interests and values. It's very inspiring.

I also get bored seeing van builds that look like they popped out from IKEA, no personality all streamlined and sterile. Hers she did herself and even the practical dog bed and live edge was creative.

Your video just came across my feed today and what an incredible way you live! My husband and I love to hunt and be in the back country but I never saw how a lifestyle like this would be conducive to that. This has changed my mind! What a breathe of fresh air compared to the typical van lifer I usually see. Love your build by the way. You did a fantastic job.

Thank you for sharing ! I am an old man of sixty & watching what you have accomplished has blessed me immensely .. I too am building my home on wheels perhaps with the same frame of mind ..lol Meaning my design is for my own pleasure & use in mind .. it's barely a one person size lol the tiny 4x4 Suzuki Samurai is custom put together with my own hands just right for Cheech & I, he's a tiny chihuahua ... Most of my life I lived where I could enjoy the out doors .. There's nothing more pleasant to my nose sense than the smell of a wood fire & coffee / & bacon cooking in the air & feeling the cool brisk mountain morning ... the quietness of my surroundings allows me to feel secure & content ... soaking up by taking in my surroundings .. always being alert to movement & sounds that aren't natural to the sounds nature produces ... some folks don't like such quietness & stillness .. I love the wild undisturbed quietness nature has to offer ... it's more difficult to escape from those who have no clue how they intrude on someones solitude .. that's okay .. that's why our home has wheels ... lol Thanks for sharing !

First time I’ve seen one of your videos. Thoroughly enjoyed the tour. Looks like a great van and the fact hat you did yourself is amazing. You remind me off my son who is also intelligent, talented and able to figure things out and get it done. That said, he does take risk he shouldn’t at times. Having your stove so close to your bed is tempting fate, even though you keep a close eye on it. Things can go wrong in an instant, especially when you throw a dog in the mix. Just saying. Believe me I know, after living and surviving for 58 years now, in less than ideal circumstances at times. Look forward to watching more of your videos. Stay safe.

Been watching a lot of these DIY van videos lately while I contemplate the process, and I really appreciate this one. I think at this point in my life I appreciate more creature comforts than you wanted to have (interior hot water bathing is my big one, personally), but it's so nice to get a look at someone doing things a little differently -- emphasizing self-sufficiency and eschewing some of the more complex systems in favor of simpler, more flexible solutions. A tiny wood stove definitely feels luxurious to me, though, rustic or not! Nothing on earth produces heat quite like a good wood stove. Such a nice idea.
