The VS definitely has a cult following, but then again so does Shimano and Penn. I’ve had a few Tsunami carbon shield rods that I was pleased with but nothing special. If I were looking to spend around the $300 mark I doubt I’d go for Tsunami over something from Daiwa, Shimano, or Penn. Great video guys!

Slower oscillating spool equals better line lay for further casting distances. I have a saltx and after break-in its butter smooth as well as the drag. Best bang for the buck.

Yea for sure! I’ve also heard the faster oscillation like these reels have helps with heavy drag. Supposedly it keeps the line from digging into itself…

@@tailwateroutfittersthat’s exactly why they do it, nothing worse than catching a really nice fish and being pumped then going to chuck out your favorite lure only to have it get about 20 yards and snap off because the line was super dug into the spool, even with the crazy fast occultation the van staal still has way more line capacity so line lay in this case is a moot point..

Cabo 50, have had one fished it ocean, beach for I think 4 years now and haven't serviced it yet, still smooth the drag just now needs a retouch, its a 5k ish and its light 40+ pounds of drag, right at 220$. great reel, ugly but hey whatever.

Cant believe this video is a month old. Saltx already has a huge following down in florida. Got 2 van staals and i can tell you the salt x is an amazing reel fully sealed and super strong. They didnt just find a company to make their reel. Its allegedly designed by some guys in the tsunami team

FYI: Van Staal is pure fishing, a company that makes everything fishing just like tsunami does. Not a fan of either one personally though. Shimano Saragossa is cheaper and better than both of those reels IMO.

Van Staal is no longer made in American anymore, not sure the quality is still there, that’s what made them great, I had a VR150, sold it to get a Twin Power 10000 for offshore fishing. If I get back into inshore and surf fishing again, I’ll splurge on a new VS.

I think Tsunami may have been better off NOT making the reel look like a VS knock-off. I generally like Tsunami and their products, and have some in my arsenal. I would have considered buying the SaltX BUT it looks too similar to the VS. If I want a reel that looks like the VS, I will buy a VS. My two cents. Good comparison review!
