Just a suggestion Mateo. Our body heat released when sleeping creates a lot of moisture underneath a mattress if there is no air flow. It’s a really good idea to drill some holes into that platform you just built, otherwise you’re going to end up with mold there. Love your build so far… looks amazing! Big hugs! 😊

Since you have to cut the mattress, take the piece you cut off and turn it into a bolster you can use behind your back when you're sitting up. Just have a cool pillowcase made for it!

Yep, that's what happened before. Lars played in the box for days on end. Mateo ended up having to get Lars another box after using the first one to start a fire. LOL! Just too cute.

Mateo I saw this gorgeous white van and had beautiful flowers all over it in a beautiful swirling design and then I thought wow what a great paint job and then I got up real close to it and it was hundreds and hundreds of stickers designed so perfectly You could do stuff like that to your van home!!! PS I don't and wouldn't eat octopus I feel sorry for them I like octopus they're smart and innocent animals

I think we all look at this channel for your van travel across the US, but let's not forget how good of a cook and a handyman you are. Just an all around skillful person. Ever in San Francisco, drinks on me.

Oh and instead of that sheet on the platform put a piece of indoor/outdoor carpet and drill the holes sporadically, then put the mattress.☀️

Hi Matteo, reminder to have air flow to the bottom of your bed between the platform and mattress to prevent mold. Maybe think about slats instead of solid piece. They do sell spacers specifically for it, not sure of cost. 😊

You can holes with circle saw blade connected to your drill. Space the holes out the bed platform will still be sturdy enough to hold your body weight.

Maybe you can attach another piece of plywood to your bed with a hinge. So it will fold out if you want to extend the bed length from time to time. Adding the extra piece of plywood with the hinge keeps the van layout you envisioned while giving you the option of extending your bed if needed. Then you would be able to just turn your mattress 90 degrees on days you wanted to fully stretch out in bed. Of course you would have to add a couple of legs/support too. If you go that route, I definitely wouldn't cut the mattress though. I know you got this, just sharing what popped up in my head. I slept in a situation for a year where i couldn't fully stretch out. That was 2 years ago, and i still thank God when i fully stretch out in bed every night. I found it to be one of those things you don't realize how important it is until you can't do it anymore. I'm enjoying this build and can not wait to see the finished product. 💙

I can relate. I slept in a bed with a metal head and footboard as a child. My parents didn't notice I'd outgrown it for nearly two years. I didn't realize how much I missed stretching out until they got me a full size bed with no footboard.

Insulate before u build walls or u will freeze in winter and suffocate in summer. Do it right. Also water proof membrane for floor... Good luck.

​@@Abena_Goddess87Our campervan is professionally built inside. It wasn't a home made build. But I can share that even our camper gets freezing cold in the winter, in the North of Europe. We need the gas heater on to warm the vehicle. If we don't carry two gas cylinders we can't heat or cook. And it is too cold to try to sleep in the vehicle in the freezing cold without our heating on. The camper gets ice hanging off it and the windscreen feezes in winter. And in summer, we suffocate from the heat if we go to a hot country. And our van is built to spec. From what I have seen Mateo was in the snow in winter. If he doesn't plan well and include insulation he is going to struggle. Maybe he doesn't think so now. There must be a way to do some form of insulation without making it super thick to loose height. He just isn't taking heed. It is his van so he must do what he likes. People who follow him want him to do well, and many people do leave valuable info. And the wood should be sealed to protect it from moisture. So yeah, each to their own I guess.

When I heard you say your bed was infused, it reminded me, I bought a pillow once with eucalyptus in it. I didn’t know it’s poison to cats! I almost lost my sweet boy over it! Thank goodness he recovered, but I did lose him a few months ago. 💔🐈 He was 20!! Anyhow, just a PSA to warn others not to have eucalyptus around their kitties. You should, if you still could, put some space between the back of your platform/bed and your back door. As I was watching another vanlifer and she said that she wished that her bed was not on the back door because trash and debris gets back there from outside even though she never opens /use the back door.🙏🏾❤️

Also there is a epoxy called Panelbond. It's made by 3M. It's used to glue body panels on in auto body shops. I use it often. When it sets up you can't remove it unless you heat it. You can glue metal to wood

Several vanlifers I watch have advised to have ventilation beneath foam mattresses because the body causes dampness which causes black mold. You should drill at least 2"inch holes scattered in your plywood.❤
