Van Halen - Woman In Love - Gene Simmons produced Demo - Eddie Van Halen Guitar Lesson with Tab

[Episode 17]
In this video I show you how to play Ed's solo and riffs from "Woman In Love" found on the 1976 Gene Simmons produced Demo. Search for "Zero Demo" on KZread. It's a completely different song than "Women In Love" on VH II. Only the plot is shared by both.
Van Halen Rising by Greg Renoff goes into detail about why the management of Kiss decided to pass on the young band.
Tuning: Eb standard for the solo. For the rhythm parts you need to lower the B string pitch like you do for other VH songs.

Thanks! It's not the most VH-sounding song, but it's still good.

You can see the running with devil patterns a little. Doesn’t sound at all like it but you see the pattern

Most of you folks probably noticed that Ed did not do any tapping on the Gene Simmons demos

Great Videos! How about a video on what your using to get the EVH tone? AND.......How about "Put Out The Lights"?

Thanks! I just try to get in the ballpark with the tone. I feel like you need to move some air through a 4X12 to get close to the real thing, and I can't do that here. Someone asked me in the comments of my "Let's Get Rockin'" video about what I am using and I explain it there: kzread.info/dash/bejne/aWZo3K-qptmdp84.html I have the songs for the next few videos chosen, but "Put Out the Lights" could be a future idea. I think I prefer the Zero demo version of that one.

Awesome! If you’re taking requests… what about “Main squeeze”? I think it’s been named multiple things actually but that’s the most common one. It’s a mean drop D riff. I learned most of it by ear, but Would love to see your interpretation of all parts of that one.

Thanks! Listening to "Main Squeeze"...I thought that was a different take (maybe a different day?) of "Red Zone/Act Like it Hurts." I love the first minute of it-some great soloing too. Maybe I'll eventually do a video where I cram in as many of the riffs as I can.

Yeah, it seems like they decided (or Gene encouraged them) to play this one very straight. The fill Alex comes in with says it all. Thanks about the guitar. I made that one as a tribute to all of the cool Japanese guitars that were around when I was just starting to play (and didn't have any money).

@@JimbosGuitarPlanet supposedly Ed was doing some tapping in 1975, but these demos were recorded in 1976 and he doesn't do any tapping on any of them

I listened to most of the Warner Bros Demo today, and I only noticed what sounded like tapping in the D.O.A. solo. That was done in February of '77, so the transformation apparent in his playing on VH I took place between February and August of '77 when they entered the studio. In the book "Van Halen Rising" some fans recount seeing the "full-on Eruption-style tapping" for the first time that summer.

@@JimbosGuitarPlanet that is very possible. I did not know that. But I have listened to all of those Gene Simmons demos that the band did numerous times. For whatever reason, Ed chose not to showcase that technique on the Gene Simmons demos

"Women In Love" on VH II is a completely different song. Only the storyline of the lyrics is similar. This one is usually referred to as "Woman In Love" and if you listen to the vocals you can hear them singing "woman."
