It's not often you see Van Halen covered with the same person doing the guitar work and vocals, that's impressive. The drummer nailed the VH snare sound too.

Well, to stay true to the original, Eddie played this song on the now hard to find (and $$$) Steinberger GL-2T equipped with a "TransTrem" (which I do not own). So, I can't take any credit for the fine guitar playing here provided by "Tutto" on his beautiful striped Steinberger GL-4T). 🎸 As for the drummer, yes indeed, Mike Conway is a VH fanatic on an endless pursuit to nail Alex's fantastic drum sound... especially that awesome snare! 🥁

Now, with 60 fast-approaching, it's becoming more and more of a struggle. Look what happened to Jon Bon Jovi at about 60?! 😱

I’m here as you might get more views about the Trans Trem guitar as Howard Stern had Sammy, Joe S, Mike, Jason playing Summer Nights and Joe plays it on his guitar and you can see the wild fingering he has to do to get the same chords. He even says “difficult and uncomfortable fingering” when you see how easy the Trans Trem makes it.

Sure! Lots of guitarists use a capo on this one (probably because a real TranTrem is so hard to find nowadays, and if you can find one, it will cost you an arm and a leg.) It is also more difficult to play properly with a capo, kind of clunky (requires some quick on-the-fly maneuvers), and IMHO, just doesn't sound the same as the dead-on open lock positions you get with a TransTrem. Still, I am sure some guitarists who "nailed it" with their capos would be happy to argue about this with me! 😜 I say just do whatever works for you, and have fun doing it! 🤘

Sick!!! That guitar it beautiful. How did you score that? Should lend that to Satch for the tour. Lol. What a GENIUS song from EVH. Since he passed I’ve been really tuning in more to his incredible writing and rhythm playing. Yeah I always took note of early VH and the riffs. But the Hagar era tunes he just had so much more complexity happening and the songs were so fluid and ever changing. The whole package. Great leads but the riffs were SONGS. One of the greatest of all time. RIP King Edward!

I so wish that was my guitar! It would be Tutto's, which he scored in Japan along with several other beautiful vintage Kramer and Music Man guitars. There will only ever be one King Edward. I shall forever remain his humble student... and he will forever be my professor, muse and idol! 🕊 🙏 🤘

I use Moises App to separate all the individual album tracks, and then at mixdown, I bring them back into the mix at about 10-20% for "sweetening". But don''t worry... I assure you everyone is really playing their instruments. I don't hide my use of backing tracks... If you read my Channel Description under the About tab, I give a full disclaimer. Just listen to the very END of the cover to see what the guitar sounds like all by itself without adding effects in my DAW, along with a little "Sweetener" from the original track! DOH! 🤣 Good ears!👂

I thought that was Ray Steven's doing the backup vocals

Wow! I really appreciate the compliment, but I must bow down to my idols. For Sammy to still be rockin' at friggin' 76 is not only amazing, but inspiring (at least to this humble copycat pushing 60). MA's VH chops are ingrained in his DNA. Satch was put on the spot on the HS Show. Let's just wait until the tour starts this summer and give them all a fair shot. I am sure everything will be tuned up like a fine engine by then! 🤘

Agree 💯❗Ain't nobody here even trying to top Sammy. It should go without saying... Sammy does Sammy best. Eddie does Eddie best. MA does MA best. Satch does Satch best, and so on (and I am sure he will blow everyone's mind come summer tour time). Why even bother comparing? Just enjoy the cover, however good, bad or indifferent. I'm just a hobbyist bedroom musician, and to be honest, find it flattering if not laughable to be remotely compared to my idols. A little humility goes a long way, and you have to have A LOT when you are covering Van Halen. They are only one of the greatest rock bands of all time! 🤘

@@seanmccaberocks Amazing video playing and singing all the parts yourself in the original key. Those Steinberger TransTrem guitar are pricey and the EVH styling is top notch, just like Eddie’s. I agree Sammy is singing great at 76 tuned down a whole step. Satch will be amazing by Summer 2024.

Sounds great but I think you might be singing it in a higher key compared to the original.

Thanks so much! Well, you are both right and wrong at the same time. It's in the same key as the original album version, released way back in 1986. Father Time catches up with all of us... So for the last decade or 3, Sammy has been dropping it down 2 semitones, e.g., his recent performance on The Howard Stern Show. He's 76 years old now, so it's totally amazing he can still sing some of his hardest songs at all, even a full step lower! 🤘

Guitarist has way too little stage presence playing that classic song. Drink some coffee, dude

He's no David Lee Roth, that's for sure! 🤣 However, I do give kudos for his Steinberger equipped with the prerequisite TransTrem. That's the main thing I intended to feature in my 2 covers with Tutto, "Summer Nights" and "Get Up". Maybe someday I will spring for my own GL-2T ($$$), drink some coffee and then cover "Pleasure Dome", "Fire in The Hole" and "Me Wise Magic". Thanks for watching! ☕
