Van Halen - Runnin' With The Devil (live 2015)

"Runnin' with the Devil" is the second single from Van Halen's 1978 eponymous debut album. The song lyrics were inspired by the Ohio Players song "Runnin' from the Devil". The song begins with a collection of car horns sounding. The horns were taken from the band’s own cars and mounted in a box and powered by two car batteries, with a foot switch. Producer Ted Templemans slowed the horns down before adding them to the track. This same idea was first used during the band’s club sets and appeared on the Gene Simmons Demo on House of Pain.
"Runnin' With The Devil" [Lyrics]
I live my life like there's no tomorrow
And all I've got I had to steal
Least I don't need to beg or borrow
Yes, I'm living at a pace that kills
Runnin' with the devil
Runnin' with the devil
I'll tell y'all about it
I found the simple life ain't so simple
When I jumped out on that road
I got no love, no love you'd call real
Ain't got nobody waiting at home
Runnin' with the devil
God damn it lady, you know I ain't lying to ya
I'm wanna tell you one time
Aah-yeah
Running with the devil
Yes I am
Yeah
Woo
Woo
You know I, I found the simple life, weren't so simple, no
When I jumped out on that road
Got no love, no love you'd call real
Got nobody waiting at home
Runnin' with the devil
Runnin' with the devil
Runnin' with the devil
Runnin' with the devil

Years of shit smoking and drinking didn’t help in THE battle. And it’s sad, because he wasn’t only a musical Genius. He was a nice, humble, down to earthed guy, and everybody got the opportunity to know him loved him so much.

He sounds pretty good here despite the age, not being able to hear himself(notice he kept checking his earpiece) and also after busting his nose open. He is a true showman. He damn sure puts Vince Neil, David Coverdale, and a few other 80s singers to shame.

43 years ago today, February 10th, 1978 this song along with the self titled debut album "Van Halen" changed rock n roll music forever. Nothing would be the same for most aspiring guitar players after hearing the 2nd track, "Eruption". Nothing was the same after this album was released. God speed EVH. One of the greatest guitar gods to have ever lived.

But man will Heaven be a Rocking and a Rolling tonight. I have 1 poster of Eddie and soon to be 10. And as Eddie used to say, "If you want to be a rock star or just be famous, then run down the street naked, you'll make it on the news or somthing. But if you want music to be your livelihood then, play, play, play and play! And eventually you'll get to where you want to be." Man, i'll never forget that quote. Anyways, RIP.
