Van Dale Silo Unloader at Work/Cows Out For A Run

The colder temps have given way to a warm-up on our Minnesota Dairy Farm. Alan feeds sorghum from the silo, giving an up-close look at how our Van Dale Silo Unloader works. The dry cows and heifers are enjoying the fermented feed. The Dairy Cows finally get to get outside and stretch their legs after being kept safe and warm in the barn the last few days. The cows go for a good run before finally deciding to settle in and eat some hay outside. Alan also makes a couple of quick fence repairs before it's time for him to head back to work driving bus.

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Small farms/farmers are the life blood of America thanks for bringing us along, I realize its a ton of work to video the daily life of a farmer but without people like you taking the time it will be lost to the ages.

Often when I see an electric fence I remember when we were kids and I was visiting a friend who had a farm. We were walking around looking for trouble and my friend, who had a younger brother, said to him, "Hey, Tommy. Why don't you take a pee on that wire and see what happens.". Well, Tommy did and started hollering and ran all the way back to the house.

Silo unloaders are great and like lots of things on the farm. When they work they are awesome, when they break they are like so many other things on a dairy, THEY NEVER BREAK DOWN when your NOT using them AKA manure spreaders, milking machines, skid loaders etc etc. lol Kevin.

So happy to find your channel and since then, I've been watching every video that I can find. It's so relaxing and rewarding to see the fruits of your labors. I ran my first plow just before I turned 6. My Uncle Mac had to run to the barn for something and I kept that Ford 8N straight to the end of the row. It took both feet to push in the clutch, but I got it done. God Bless!

In the wintertime, the silence would freeze to the walls. And we had farmers that were going there and start chipping at frost off the walls. And then the whole works would come down and Can get covered up when that would all let loose in. Sometimes they didn't make it because then they couldn't breathe because of being covered up. So we lost a lot of farmers that way

Just a really neat video, Alan. The amount of work that has to be done in a winter sometimes gets overwhelming especially when freezing occurs. And it seems you guys out in Minnesota have some real nasty winters, some deep snow.. Here in Western Pennsylvania it's not too deep, maybe except for once every two years a big one shows up. We are experiencing nasty winds. I will ask some friends about your item. You have a good day, Skip

Enjoyed the video. Don't know why, but watching cattle kick up their heels is very enjoyable, because they are so gracefully ungraceful, for want of a better expression. They looked happy. I wish my screen was larger so I could have watched the grouse better, but I did see and hear something movement. We used to have bobwhites and pheasants when I was young, but not anymore. Thanks for taking us along. I doubt you would have the time, but there is a youtube channel called 'Just a Few Acres Farm' and besides farming Pete works on restoring old Farmalls. He is working on one right now that really reminds me of the one you had warming up. He explains everything he does and I enjoy it even though I couldn't possibly do it myself. At the moment he has the front separated from the back of the tractor. Not trying to hawk his channel, mind you, just an idea. (Yeah, with all of your spare time---which I know you don't have.) Take Care and God Bless you all.

I'm not sure how old it is, but it hasn't been used much, the people I bought it from, purchased it new, and emptied a 40ft silo 3 times. We've had cattle get out, but I think the farthest they have gone, was about a quarter mile down the road. Years ago my grandpa had some beef steers get out, they crossed the river and we never did find them.
