You can feel very subtle ideas actually used in new vegas as well. Chasing after the guy with nukes and ultimately getting to decide on which faction you wish to drop them on is in Lonesome Road, just not in a space station (outer worlds anyone)

That's why Interplay got rekt about the MMO they were making because even back then, an online Fallout was in their mind. I feel like they waited to see how it could become financially viable.

Yeah though the issue is that we don’t know what the final product would have looked like. I mean fallout 4 was supposed to have some sort of underwater combat or level. They got cut. Parts of this story and their plans might have been forced to be cut back. Comparing what they wanted to do to with what is possible is somewhat unfair.

When this was proposed, it was only 7 years from then that Fallout new Vegas came out. Now, it's almost 14 years since new Vegas came out

Ive herd and seen so many people and small groups who tried to attempt to make fallout Van Buren and each time they started it just like all the others spent very little time on it and when they realize "oh shit this is harder than i thought" and bail on it completely and leave the pieces for the next person to pick up and do the same thing. Which im surprised that stuff like fallout 3 is getting remade along with fallout 2 but van buren, its like a curse for some reason like it refuses to be made, so far at least to my knowledge at least 11 people tried and failed to get the project going. Now all we can do is wait till this curse finally breaks or continues on its next victim.

I have a few problems with hang-ups at the start of exporting sometimes. After it starts I don't have a problem. Superfast since I got my new PC. On my old PC with Filmora 8, I had some pretty long exports, but I attribute that to CPU.

TKs-Mantis usually takes a couple exports for me, about halfway on the first attempt it almost always stalls at about 50% so I have to cancel and do it over, otherwise it’s fantastic. One other very small export related issue is the projected export information, for example most of the time it will say the video should be gigs in size but they end up merely a few hundred megabytes upon completion, but that’s really not so much of an issue at all, just odd really lol.

When i saw the maps from previous fallouts i wish bethesda made larger fallout maps 😭

Granted, that wasn't all "rendered" map. You just had set locations and would "fast travel" between them with random encounters in-between.

The story sounds good IMO. This should be Fallout 5.

I just don't like those types of quests but at least in 3 it made sense to me. But I might replay 3 as I'm just replaying 2 at the moment. I'm just not that much of a fan of 4 with the main quest, some of the side quests I don't mind at all and are enjoyable.

Ohhh, damn, that would be great. The progress vids on F4NV have me hyped, and their partners working on F4: Capital Wasteland also show that same passion and technical know-how. Their rendition of _Van Buren_ could well be the next project. Fingers crossed.

God the amount of hours I spent on that game just in the Multiplayer function with GameSpyArcade... the memories... and I REALLY loved the campaign. And this is coming from someone who loved Fallout 1 and 2 literally to death in the hundreds of hours I've spent on both those games over the years. I was also really surprised to learn that they had planned a Fallout Tactics 2! I couldn't even imagine how that would have turned out

Torn Van Buren Baldur's Gate III (Not Larian's) So many promising games killed before their time. Lionheart is the closest thing we have to what Van Buren probably would've ran like even though that game was also rushed to be released before it could fully realized... but at least it got a release.

I like Fallout 3 as we have it now, but I would have loved to play through this.

Theres a fan made Project on this game in an improved fallout 2 engine i worked in for some time. The Project was huge and its done 60% orr so at the time.

when I first discovered about this game I really got obsessed with it, it's so interesting.

Van Buuren story sounds absolutely amazing. I wish Bethesda never bought rights to the Fallout franchise and Interplay continued working on it or at least same devs under a new company.

With all this stuff going on with COVID-19, do you think this will have a major effect on the release of Wastelanders?

It for sure could. Everything seems to be taking a break and staying home. It seems like the common thought is until around the second week of April. So it could have an effect. I just hope everyone, including the people at Bethesda. Are safe and healthy.

@@jamesmeow3039 I was using GURPS. It's quite complicated though so players might prefer something else. If I were to run it again I'd probably use a modified version of D20 Modern.

I absolutely love the fallout series especially the first 2 and new Vegas, but hearing this makes me feel a wide array of emotions from, awed to flat out depressed, and hearing what you said about how fallout new Vegas is sort of what interplay/Black Isle fallout 4 was going to be, it made me so depressed knowing that we will never see the interplay fallout series come full circle like it was planned. Sadly even if someone were to piece together van buren and make a full game, something just wouldn’t feel right. I honestly really want to have born into some universe where this actually happened and see just how amazing it could have been.

Holy shit, I have to admit, I've only played the tech demo and looked at some of the leaked stuff + your Joshua Graham Van Buren video. But after watching this video I think Van Buren would've been my favorite fallout game story wise 😍

It always feels like in New Vegas and 4 to a certain extent, that this game is always referenced, I'm hoping they'll make this into a game one day

Two van buren projects have my attention, one is a unity 3D version, still in development and going strong, the other is using the fallout 2 engine.

Honestly I'm not hardcore into editing but I have Filmora and love it. No subscription, no bullcrap, buy it and own it.

I don't know if I'd say the tech demo 'leaked'. It was available as a download on the Black Isle website back in the day.

The prototype of this game works so good I crashed as soon as I almost completed the final quest,too bad that it's so short,too good that you can use commands

I wonder what New Vegas would be like if Van Buren was released AND they had time to fully develop it. It's a masterpiece as it is and I can only dream as to what it could've been

Idk what happened since, but there is a remake of Van Buren being made by the community. I think you mentioned this but idk. Nevertheless, you should try and interview J.E Sawyer/Chris Avellone someday. That'd be the most amazing thing. I'd love to her their thoughts and visions of Van Buren, and New Vegas; that never got out.

Have always wanted to see a Fallout remake mod in the Divinity: OS2 engine. Maybe it would be a good place for a salty old dev to try and whip up a Van Buren mod. If they could get around IP concerns I would freaking love that.

this fallout three has similar beats to The Outer Worlds. the scientist sounds a lot like Phineas Wells and there's mention of a plague in the first area in the game, Emerald Vale on Terra 2

I wonder if that giant robot, ARGOS, was the inspiration for Liberty Prime in Bethesda's Fallout 3? Also, the plot of Van Buren reminds me of the James Bond film "Moonraker" with its whole shtick of space weapons purging the Earth and a mad scientist with select chosen people to repopulate it

Joshua would have been an interesting companion and would love more time with him, hes my favourite as well as Marcus. This would have been interesting to see. Rather than being a vault dweller, we are a prisoner which honestly could have worked and would have been interesting. With NV we are a courier with amnesia which is a cool spin on the story. I like some of 3, some side quests and the companions, its not a bad entry, just something different to what we were expecting.

Is there no way to reverse engineer van buren's engine? You would need that if you were to piece it together or use a new engine and recreate the assets.

Man, when compared to the Fallout 3 we got. Van Buren sounds 10x better!!

It makes me angry that the gunners weren’t talon company in fallout 4, like I understand it wouldn’t be lore friendly but I bet they could have figured it out

I think there may well be a more complete version of Van Burem somewhere or its possible such a version existed at some point. Proper game preservation is still a difficult task today and back in 2003 it was even harder, especially if we're talking about an incomplete game from a company that later sold the IP in question. It's very easy for source code or different game versions to get lost in the shuffle, particularly with common practice from the time period of VB, even big name titles weren't safe. Sega lost the source code for most of their most famous Saturn games which is why they never get rereleased, Konami lost Silent Hill 2 & 3, etc. Also if we consider other cancelled games or different versions of released games, we know many of them exist in some form but have still not seen the light of day. I believe the original version of Half Life is still sitting on a disk one of the devs has but he can't or won't release anything but a picture of said disk, Earthbound 64 was supposedly 75-95% done but it's never been seen outside of screenshots and a trailer, there's other examples like this. So for VB we know Bethesda said they weren't interested in releasing someone else's work when they were asked about completing VB, which I assume also means they have no interest in sharing any unfinished prototypes they may have. This makes sense buisness wise since releasing that would only "distract" from their own fallout releases. Given all this I think it's entirely possible that somewhere out there exists a more complete version of VB either locked away in one of Bethesda's vaults or in some random forgotten box at a VB dev's house that just hasn't been uncovered yet. Or it could be a sadder reality and due to the poor preservation practices from 2003, the near finished version of VB existed but has long since been lost to history, likely never to be seen again.

I would of loved to see that gaint robot idea in a 3d fallout game, Maybe like gigantic spider Robot that you can hear screaming from miles away

8:00 ish, did you just say Boulder Dome? Are the Boulder Dome mods for FNV pieces of Van Buren remade for FNV? If so I need to download those mods ASAP

Okay, hear me out.... NV machimaxia (no idea how to spell it) with the powder gangers as fellow prisoners, either yes man, victor or ED-E as the robot, Arcade, Elijah, or the Think Tank as the scientist, and the Zion plant vault (29 i think?) fungus as the disease, or mod if possible

Damn that story sounds a million times better than trying to find your dad/son or whatever

That plot is pretty nice. There was guy named Hexer, who tried to recreate Van Burren in the classic Fallout engine but gave up. Then returned with Fallout Yesterday, which is... the same thing? Hope he manage to make it.

Damn, _damn_ interesting story potential! I liked _Fallout 3_ the way it is now, but this as the finished Part Three could have resulted in a vastly different experience. I coulda hated it, even. Oh, well. Thanks for an enlightening peek into the game-design process.
