    Han Han do it! My oldest daughter is 15 and instead of buying her a car, I'm buying her a van to do the exact same thing. We're currently camping out of a RV for the summer in CO, our first nomadic trip while our 30' school bus sits in AZ, gutted last year (hadn't a clue what I was doing relied on KZread) where we'll come back in October for its build. If that's what you want to do, learn NOW that you can do anything you set your mind to. 🌺

    Han Han don't make me cry!! -We might be a little... Different in our thinking than the average?? But I don't care anymore. I used to be really skittish about it. We tried really hard with conventional living, public schools, "sticks n bricks", came from lower income all across the board on up to quite the (supposedly) comfortable, ever climbing six digit income and we just continued to, idunno...we weren't happy. Ever. We were moving a lot but never traveling, never seeing anything...school was more about drama and trauma... And then, finally, we found out that a) we didn't have to go by the rules society placed in order to find success and b) if you want to, you can figure out how to do a thing. 💁🏽‍♀️ Boom. No looking back. I can't wait (ish) for my daughter to realize her own build (I'll miss her with us in the same space and worry constantly about her getting into an accident). But what's really cool, and what is making my eyes burn with lil tears is, she's a fantastic fecking person and she will do what it is she wants and hopefully I get to see it all. ♥️ I hope your mama, with all our natural eyebrow raising at our kids, deep down wants the exact same (should be a good chance). 🌺

    You bring back memories when my wife and I did all of the finishing work on our log cabin. Thursday evening was our Menards night for 5 summers. Then we would forget something or find out we needed something and would have to decide if a 2.5 hour trip to & from Rice Lake Menards or drive 1.5 hours to Spooner and pay 3 times as much at a hardware store. But, the best thing is we challenged ourselves and won. I’m glad you had a similar experience on a smaller scale. Your Menards comment brought challenging memories back. When we started our project we were totally clueless.

    I love the sound of rain, why would you tell it to stop? Anyway, this is a beautiful van build. My favorite part is what looks like ivy plants to separate the space and even the wide mirror at one side of the bed to give the impression of more open space. I'm not a big fan of mirrors but there is a special lady in my life and she will want her mirror. I am the beast, she is the beauty! A mirror is definitely going to be designed into the van build but for vanity but potentially also to improve the feeling of a more open space. The L shape counter-top is also something I never thought about but now looking at thanks to this video. Thanks!

    Can you discuss the legal issues with van life in a future video? The reason I am asking is because where I live you can't sleep in vicheles. My city can't be the only one with that ordinance.

  • @RestorationRanchHealing

    @RestorationRanchHealing

    5 жыл бұрын

    It has been my experience that each city is unique in that they have their own rules, codes and ordinances. As well each state has their own laws. It is a good idea to check with the location of where you want to stay before going. With that being said, if you travel coast to coast there are road side rest areas ( some you can sleep at , some you can not) there are truck stops you can sleep at , and there are campgrounds and rv parks as well. Most have a set of rules. We have traveled full time coast to coast for 5 years and have always stayed in campgrounds or rv parks where we plan to spend the most time. Then while driving states in between we have stayed at truck stops, road side rest areas and some rv parks. There is no federal law. It is all based on per state. Some areas we have stayed at in Texas as well as California consider it loitering and will write citations for people parking overnight. If it is legal and not against code and you are too tired to drive- most convenient stores if you speak to a manager will allow you to park for one night stay for sleeping.

    These kinds of laws need to be challenged in court. The reason they have them is to harass and extract money from the public. They use it as an excuse to approach and investigate without any other legal basis. It’s just another ruse to infringe on your constitutional rights under the guise of protecting the public. Usually the only protection the public needs is from rogue cops and police agencies. KZread is full of incidents where cops have overstepped their authority and infringed on their civil rights. Whenever you encounter a cop don’t volunteer information by invoking your fifth amendment rights. It’s guaranteed they’ll twist what you say and try to incriminate you in something. You don’t have to take my word for it. Search police violated my rights and see how often it occurs.

    Start working part time and do NOT let school fall behind, as a result. Save everything you earn and by the time you're ready to drive, you'll be able to kick off your build. If you learn to drive in a safe van, you'll be a champ by the time your home is built. After that, you'll have somewhere to live where you pay no rent, get to keep every cent of your paycheck, and you'll have funds to eat what you want, drive where you want, and travel, once it's safe again (: I'm serious, btw. You CAN do it, you just have to work hard, be patient, and stay focused (there ARE forces that will become distractions). I really wish I'd done this. I hung with the wrong people, picked up terrible habits, didn't love myself enough to see past 18 at the time, and fell in love with the wrong person, as a result. A mess. But my oldest child came of it, and I wouldn't change a thing. I'll be working on getting a bus and doing this. I have the advantage of experience and being good at taking on big and hard projects, you have the advantage of time, lack of major responsibilities, and lack of demands, financially. You've got this. And so do I. Best of luck, kiddo! 💜

    Oh look...spotted the beta, pussified male! I myself am a woman, and I'll be the first to admit that building and fixing things is not one of the things we as women typically excel at. Of course there's always exceptions to every rule, and one will find the odd woman out there who is good at these types of things. But please stop acting like women are just out here kicking ass in carpentry, plumbing and electrical work---because we're not. You'd be hard-pressed to find many of us even interested in those areas. That's just the way it is. It's okay if you don't pander to us to make us feel better about ourselves and to "validate" us. Us strong-confident women don't need your pandering. It's lame. And it's okay if women and men have roles that are more specific to each other. It's not a crime. It's just the way it is.

And a bench seat on the driver wall with storage below. Bamboo reclaim floor is a nice addition, too! Having a place to sit in my van where I could stretch my legs was ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL!. I'm about halfway through the build after 10.5 months living in her.

    I think I've watched every van build on you tube and something always brings me back to this one. I don't plan on living in my van full time just using it for vacations, summer camping, summer and fall festivals and thrifting so this build makes the most sense to me. Van builds sure beat the hell out of paying the high cost of bed bug ridden hotels or paying high fuel prices while trying to maneuver a big ass RV or camper through a city. I rarely read the comment sections on you tube but I did this time and though there is some great information on the bed and mould I didn't see any suggestions on what to do about mould as far as the rest of the insulation in the van? unless I just overlooked it. I'm also wondering what size screws or how you drilled that wood to the ceiling and walls without drilling right through the van? One of my biggest fears.. I guess I'm going to have to watch the other van builds again. Did you notice the guys that insulted you the worst had user names like Dirk digger and woodcock? 😂 Anyway my daughter is about your age and has traveled to Guatemala to build a house for the less fortunate. She learned so much and came home feeling like she could do anything and she really can. My son's girlfriend builds and hangs drywall "sheetrock" right beside my son and he's getting ready to teach her how to weld. I have a good friend that is a union welder and all these ladies are gorgeous. I really don't understand why people think women are not capable. Anyway... Congratulations on your build kiddo! You did a great job. I plan on copying your plan for the most part but adding and changing just a few things to make it my own.

    I got me a 92 Chevy 20 starcraft van that has a wheelchair lift in it. Hoping I might be able to go camp and fish again ,there is a lot more places handicapped people can get out and go . They even have a few hikeing trails for wheel chairs. I am excited I hope next summer brings better weather for camping. We have all winter to get a few things done to her.

    Ok, I clicked because...beautiful woman, but I quickly got over it. Great content. There are tons and tons of these van build tour vids. Yours is different, better, honest, measured. Others blast at you like a sales pitch. Trust your instincts, you're doing it much better than all the others.

    @@abigailhutchinson5487 No, just honest. I think that was the very first video I saw of Hannah's, been a fan ever since. She's one the best content creators on YT, a pro level stylist, videographer, and presenter. I have nothing but respect for her, am in awe of her aesthetic sensibilities and talents, and really appreciate her demeanor and honest delivery. Thanks for bringing me full circle, Abigail. It's good to see my intial reaction. I'll double down, she's better skilled than the majority of us mere mortals, and credibly confidence inspiring. I'm glad she's doing this, her career options are huge.

Also I was wondering if you have heard of woofing where people work on a farm for a month or two at different locations. That would be cool to see videos of. Florida has a lot growing in the winter when other places are freezing too.

    Whoa...this is crazy cuz I still have my fashion truck (am trying to sell it) but I ALSO found it on Craigslist in Litch. I grew up in Litch till I was 10 and my brother still lives there so he helped scope it out and a person were went to church with when we were little inspected it for me. Small world!! Mine is a step van (old Fedex truck).

    Great build! Ditch that AGM and come over to the “ Dark Side” ( Lithium + Solar) . The downside is you can’t use your alternator to traditionally charge your house battery but you can charge using a DC to DC inverter while driving. It’s a bit pricey to convert but the performance, weight and longevity are huge +’s. Also having a Lithium battery monitor shows you exactly how much power you are using and your exact time to recharge or discharge. I’ve had house batteries and inverters in boats, vans and trailers over 30 years and my new Lithium setup is a game changer.
