It's been a few years since I've installed this 28x28 Fiamma roof vent, I would highly recommend looking at the Maxx Fan if you're looking at installing a roof vent into your van conversion.

Nice video. Might be a good idea to clean the contact panel with acetone to remove any detergent film and also to rough the surface with light sandpaper/wet & dry to ensure a perfect key with the mastic adhesive. Better to prepare as much as possible as you do not want leaks and a reinstall.

thanks, guys! Your build is one of my biggest inspirations! I was originally only thinking one vent as well but after seeing you've got two and said it was great in the summer for airflow I thought I'd crack on with a second one at the back.

Good video, my van (Toyota Hiace LWB high top ) also has ridges running down the length of the roof. Not many videos showing how to build up the layers of butyl / mastic tape. Starting with a small mushroom vent tomorrow, 14 inch vent next week. Very scary cutting holes in the roof

Hi . Great video . Was wondering when you come to put some roofing lining up . Would you be taking off the inside face off and cut square in the roof lining panel then put back up the bottom side of the skylight to make a nice finish . Thanks

Do you think it’s better to have the light in the middle (left to right) or offset? Thinking if I offset it on mine I can make use of the fully flat area around the vent panel indent. Thanks!

Hi , thanks for posting, you made that look easy. Some questions for you.... is the vent still water tight, I've wondered about the external ridges and wether they may leak. Also with hindsight what would be your preferred size. I will check out more of your vids as I'm starting on a first build, blank canvas. So daunting.

betterl8thanever, cutting a hole in the van especially the roof is daunting! However the install is pretty easy and if all goes wrong you can take it out re seal and replace! It hasn’t leaked so far in 5 months, personally if I was installing roof vents again especially above my bed if go for the 40x40 as they have a blind you can add to keep the light out :-)

The frame you built in the video is not the same that was fitted? That one follows the corner curves of the the skylight skirt. Yours doesn’t. You make no mention of why yours wasn’t fitted or indeed how the alternate one was contoured on the inside face to fit perfectly?

Hi! Great tutorial for installing the roof vent! I have one installed in my Hiace, but with age comes leakage. I will buy another one to replace, saw carefully your steps for preparation and install and have the following doubt: the inner frame how high it is? Fiamma's info for sandwich is 2,8 - 6 cm (minimum and max repectively). And how do you fixed the inner frame? With the internal screws? Thanks!

@@DMCH94 Honestly just stripped it all off a third time, sanded down the paint on the edge of the whole and cleaned it. Then I got 3m mastic tape around the edges again but made sure the pieces were continuous and not lumpy. I also put filler on the inside of the hinges of the fan. Not a super clean root cause of solution but third time was a charm and its been perfect since then

  • @Aboutavan

I made this frame myself, you just want to make sure the internal diameter allows for the fan to go through the middle, make sure the frame isn't so thick it will interfere with your internal finish ie ply wood or cladding :-)

They come with a plastic surround so once complete you dont see the wooden frame.. if your roof is thick enough you dont need to create a wooden frame but as panel Van's are only a few millimeters thick you need one.
