Van across Queensland to Plenty Hwy. We answer your questions on our Lap & Gear

We do something different in this episode of ‪@nextleveloz‬. Yes we follow our Lap, this time from Undara to Boulia across Queensland toward the famous Plenty Highway and the Northern Territory. But we also do some bonus, special segments responding to subscriber requests.
We wanted to use the Plenty Highway route to the NT and Central Australia rather than the sealed and more usual Barkley Highway. To get there, our route takes us through Western Queensland 965 km along the Kennedy Developmental Road from Undara, to Hughenden, Winton and Boulia. We stop at several great free camps with great names like Poison Creek, Long Waterhole and Three Mile Camp.
We know viewers have asked us some recurring questions and we didn't know how to fit them in. But we take the opportunity to break up this longer road leg over two episodes with some special bonus segments. We answer the questions:
Did we plan our Lap and how did we plan it? (included in this episode)
Can we tell you about your camera video editing gear? (included in this episode)
Can we provide an update on how the Defender is going? (next episode)
Can we do an update review of our van? (next episode)

Thanks for watching and for the comment. Yes, if you over plan and over boom it starts putting pressure on but if you don’t do enough planning you can be stressing trying to figure out the next options too much. Thank you for the feedback and hope we can keep doing whatever it is that seems to keep people watching.

Thankyou ! Absolutely love your vlogs. You seem a basic down to earth Australian couple. Makes me want to visit from the UK even more. Enjoy the rest of your tour and look forward to seeing more episodes. Also lovely you donate any income from the channel to charity. You should have a lot more subscribers !

Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to provide your comment. We really appreciate it. Glad you enjoy following along and let’s hope you get here at some stage and visit some of our stunning, wonderful and sometimes weird country! We have never boosted the site and we avoid click bait that some of the more commercial channels do, so the growth has been very organic. TBH we thought only a few friends and family would ever watch. So it’s lovely to be able to send some money off to charity thanks to people like you who have subscribed and followed our trip. All the best and thank you.

Hi mate. Thanks for watching and the feedback. KI was terrific. Ferry makes it very expensive of course. The Showground park at Adelaide was very good and convenient. It’s getting a bit of flack from some regular users because of the cost of the renovated park, but for an inner city option it’s great. Service was fine. 👍👍👍

Some useful tips there, the laminated map is a must, I am planning to do as many of the the scuba diving sites that I review.. just have to decide when...

Hi Peter - Happy Sunday! Bucket list and must do things are always going to vary from person to person, but hopefully the loose structure of how we planned provides some thoughts for others planning. Winging it might work for those with no time limits or responsibilities - but if you want to make the most of the investment in time and money for a Lap or similar big trip, I reckon some planning is essential. While a lot of people say they never book - if you want some of those very popular places especially in a swished and time that suits your other plans then some critical bookings will always be necessary. Can’t help with “when” to do it. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️😂

@@nextleveloz a planning challenge I may face for Scuba sites is that the phrase 'top ten dive site" pops up often on dive reviews.. I can tell you from doing dives in Qld, Pacific region and California, some are not top ten.

@@peterbullen3347 Yes Mike Ball used to have a Dive operation and liveaboard that operated out of Townsville (20 years ago) and I’m sure there are others. Used to certify divers then take them on the Yongala - I was already certified but even then found it a tough dive with sting currents, but stunning. I’d rank that one up there near the top. But know what you mean. You can’t dive with Whale Sharks at Ningaloo - only snorkel and they move so fast anyway. Good luck with narrowing down the options but plenty to see on land and at sea.

Hi thanks for watching and great point. We will be back that way for sure. We didn’t go through Richmond this time but yes - some pangs of guilt as we continued through Hughenden. We’d free camped an hour up the road and then decided to press through to Winton so we could get to Boulia the following day. But we live in Queensland so we can readily catch up. Regrettably you just can’t tick every box in one year. Thanks again - much appreciated. And we love that whole Dinosaur trail. Cant recommend it enough. As you probably saw in the western queensland seriesmwenrqves about the experiences at the Winton Jumpup and Lark Quarry. We look forward to seeing the others as well.

Another great Vlog, thanks for the enjoyment. I understand your pain around losing video work, I have done that a few times now as well. I run a pretty similar setup with the SD drive for my work and the larger slower drive for backup as well as the Time machine backup (iMac), Yet I still have still managed to lose some vid. Haven't lost a Drone yet though 😊 Looking forward to your next one. Must be heard to Ayres rock?

Just noticed you zone does not seem to have the use less TV antenna?

  • @nextleveloz

    @nextleveloz

    8 ай бұрын

Hi mate. No it doesn’t. We always intended to retrofit a Winsig 4.0 with 5G antennae (boosts cell signals for 3G, LTE and 5G ) and then run that through to a Nighthawk 5G mobile modem. This is before Starlink RV of course. But even then a great option for many places we go without putting out the starlink. So we had to option the Wineguard wind up TV antennae and then retrofit the winsig head to the wind up arm. Zone did both - wineguard at build and supplies and fitted the winsig at a service. I was a bit frustrated at the time because they could do both but wouldn’t do the winsig at build so i had to pay for a TV antennae we were never going to use then pay a full cost of conversion, rather than doing it at build. Anyway - that was old news. Provided we get 1 bar of mobile signal we generally get good mobile connection and the nighthawk provides good wifi around the van to tie devices . We don’t have a TV. It was dead weight and a pain to setup and put away for no reason. We stream directly to our devices and never need terrestrial TV.
