    Thank you so much for the compliment. Comments like these make my day. As far as your question goes, I am not familiar with the sleeves but after reading about them, YES!!! OMG, if I would have know about these it would have saved me a ton of time. I scratched an bore and it took me hours to fix it. Hours...lots of anger. Yes, use them. I have a video showing how to use the stem tool as well.

    @@DriversTherapy thank you mate for the quick response. The ones that I saw, they are small plastics that you position on top of the valve while you are installing the Stem Seals. I think the idea is just to protect the lips of the Stem Seal while we push it down in place. (Avoiding the seal potential scratching it while pushing it through the keepers place)

    @@MinkMood Oh, I googled it and saw a sleeve for the tool which is what caused me issues. The valve will be ok with the tool, would be real hard to hurt it but the tool can damage the bore. The sleeve for the tool is smart. Either way, both will only help avoid any damage or issues so I would say buy them both.

    Great information but I have a question...... What happens if oil intrudes at the bottom of the valve stem seal where it sits on the valve guide? Are the valve stem seals also sealed inside or is it just on top?

  • @DriversTherapy

    @DriversTherapy

    Жыл бұрын

    They sit down on seal at the bottom and there will always be a little but of oil but should not leak down into the cylinder because of the valve stem seal.

    Trying to diagnose if i have this. Car is smoking but only when oil is at operating temp. Can smell oil when it smokes. Am guessing the oil thins when its hot so maybe the gap on the stem is quite small? Other possibility is turbo seals.

  • @DriversTherapy

    @DriversTherapy

    I am not sure, but valve stem seals will leak and smoke on cold start and on takeoff from stops. It sounds more like the turbos, what kind of car is it? You can see if it is the turbos by doing a few things, first remove a charge pipe from and see if there is a lot of oil, next, have someone film you start your car after it sits overnight.

    It depends on the application honestly. What valve stems did it come with from the factory? I would stick with OEM parts to be safe.

    The spring sits around the valve and the rest of the valve train sits on top of it keeping it in place.

    Does worn valve stem seal cause positive pressure in the head cover? My toyota 2AZ-FE blows out a lot of air and oil droplets from the oil cap, when engine is running and oilcap is open.

  • @DriversTherapy

    @DriversTherapy

    Жыл бұрын

    That sounds like a PCV issue. The goal is the PCV is relief the pressure and vapors that escape past the combustion process via the pistons rings. Certain oil catch can setups prevent that if not installed correctly by utilizing a vacuum source.

Also my car dont smoke a lot on the first start after sitting overnite, it only smokes ( bluish) when you idle it for 10 or so minutes while on park and then you rev it thats when the smoke come out . Also no smoke during the idling , only when you rev it the smoke come out? Do you think the seals are bad?

    @@mikeprice8307 I can not say with certainty but if you do smell oil and see a colored smoke coming out, there is a small leak somewhere but not enough to worry or repair it. If it gets worse you will know. I had a lot of smoke and it leaked bad so I fixed my issue. It is a lot of work to do it yourself and expensive if you want someone to do it. I would keep it in mind if you ever need to repair or upgrade anything in that area.
