Valve Adjust In a 52 Panhead Harley
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
Getting ready for this took some time. Stuff in the way. Forgot how much I love that horn that stops me from removing the pushrods. But, I want new pushrod tube seals, so here goes. Finally ready.

Thank you so much for this video. I've was working on my '77 shovelhead and had the exact same issue with the rod seeming to be too long. Had to remove it the same way you did. 15 years earlier when I replaced the tube corks I didn't remember having an issue taking the rods out. You just cleared up the mystery for me. Thanks again

Thank You. That is the point of the excersise. I love these bikes and these are the things I do with them. A little hopup here and a little hopup there, keep it in good shape. Long run coming up. Oh, let's build another one too.

6:07 Sounds like Casey Jones knows you're 'on-air' too - either that or your coyote needs oiling. The Silence of the Trees . . . Doldrum winds now orbit here, sloth-like in their reach, leaves are still, the birdsong clear, & the Greenwood needs it's sleep . . . 'Cocoa time!' (I fear I'll dream of push-rods & lofted clanky-things . . . I'd prefer buying Nicole Kidman dinner : )

You said it all this time. Nicole Kidman I... say the name softly, with reverence.

A severely talented beauty . . . The best response I've ever seen in the 'comments', came from a Spanish sounding name - "Just in case we should ever meet by chance, I have taken to carrying a large diamond ring with me at all times. My wife has come to terms with this." . . . Sounds to me, he found the right girl in the first place! : )

Had issues with old hydraulic lifters on push rods in NT tropic heat shovel . . even before pulled the engine top end off after it rattled after trying to keep up with evo's , just lifters stopped working due to extreme oil thin due to heat . . but very very expensive to replace , have heard talk you can wind up the tension on them a bit (know the cam is designed for hydraulic lifters not solid). . but can they be compressed more than in manual stated , long story short , been interesting seeing the back cylinder cooling capers

You need an oil cooler. I always run a cooler on Shovelheads. Hydraulic lifters require good oil flow. I think you need a good set of lifters. The originals, at best, weren't that great. There are several good suppliers of hydraulic lifters, S&S, Jim's, Velva Touch (produced by Competition Cams). There are no cheap ways out. You might gear up a bit to keep up with the newer bikes on the road.
When you were twisting the pushrod how much drag do you have to have on it should it spin freely or just started feeling it to grab or should it spin but have a drag to
@pacificmike9501
Ай бұрын
Should have a little drag. If it spins too easily, the topend will grow as it warms and the pushrods will be too loose. You will have to learn it for yourself. Harleys are a "feel" thing. If they're too tight, the valves won't close all the way. I have faith in you.
I bet one of those forked upholstery clip removal tools like a forked screwdriver would be ideal for "persuading" the pushrod to pop back onto the lifter, with less risk of the most painful thing ever... stabbing yourself with a screwdriver. That really makes you want to say naughty words!

Hi Mike. Can you or should you soak the cork seals in some oil for a while before installing them?
@stevemiller7654

I quit using the 1930's style cork seals, about 20 years ago, and now use 21st century blue silicone rubber seals. They last forever unless physically damaged. ....RooDog....

I don't soak them.

I have a 61 panhead duoglide . I adjusted both chaines as the book des cribes. The rear chain is straight to a straight edge the chain runs in the center of the sprocket. The book says to center the wheel to the swing arm. I don't know at which point of the swing arm to use as a centering point. Also the wheel is not in the center of the rear fender. Though it looks to centered at the front of the of thre rear fender any ideas?
@pacificmike9501

The rear fender and its fender supports are way adjustable. If your rear chain is centered on its sprockets, you're probably where you ought to be.You should definitely have a Harley Davidson Service Manual 1959-1969.
Do peope x-ray bikes Mr. Mike?

Cylinders, connecting rods, stuff like that.
Is this the same for 66-69 ?

I don't know what you have in your motor. Do you have solid or hydraulic lifters? My 52 Panhead has solid lifters. Your motor originally came with hydraulic lifters. If it has been changed to solid lifters, adjust them like I showed. I've xplained hydraulic lifters before. Go to our KZread HomePage. Click on the word "videos." The ones you need will come up. Also, check your Harley 59-69 service manual.
