    I saw doctor Lori on one of those tv news talkshows, and she was showcasing a jewelry trinket box, one of those music box types that look like small tables. The next day I saw an ad on Craigslist for a similar one for $15. Went out and bought it, value on it is about $400. Thanks Dr. Lori!!

    There are good and bad things about auctions. I go to them, so I see that side of it. The upside is selling the items quickly. The downside is getting low prices on some items, it depends whos at the auction, what they want to buy and their budget. Sometimes furniture goes cheap because not everyone wants to haul it off. But I agree some auctioneers are more knowledgable than others. Thanks Dr. Lori🙂

  • @DrLoriV

    @DrLoriV

    4 жыл бұрын

    Yes, thanks for commenting. Auctions can be quick but then you typically lose a lot of money. Furniture is valuable and often sold too low. Not all pieces necessarily should be sold at the same place or time to get the most money.

    I Just get home from thrift shopping and I sit down and find my favorite lady on KZread with one of her videos. I didn't find anything of much value today, except for a desk top lamp (those kind that usually have the green glass shade). Instead of the green glass shade, the whole lamp was all brass except for the shade. That was formed out of brass as well. I left it behind because I didn't have anywhere to put it. I had a problem with part of the lamp cord being up against any bulb you might put in it. I'll think about it a little longer, and maybe go back for it if it's still there in the middle of the week. It was only $5.99, not too bad. I want to go to more estate sales. I attended one only onc,e and wasn't looking for anything in particular. In the mean time, I see all the things I wish I could find on your channel. Thank you for posting. Lovely items. I had to laugh at the Toyota plate, lol!

Was "made in" sometimes used before it was required? I find Asian porcelain so confusing. Liquidation sales on estates run very fast. They might have had appraisals of items that aren't selling and they drop the prices to expedite the sale -- this is most prevalent when the house needs to be emptied for resale.. I find that going at the last minute ensures the best cost. If I was having one myself, I would get appraisals, and market the sale to most potential buyers.

    That's ridiculous these people that do these estate sales should know what they're doing and they have the audacity to get angry at you!! why don't they do their work RIGHT in the first place? instead of using you as a scapegoat for their mistake. They didn't like the fact that you show them up for their lack of knowledge. Well that's just too bad. So sad Cry Me a River. You're the one that's got the expertise. Good for you Lori.. Usually narcissistic people don't like to be told what to do and they got so much pride they can't take any advice whether it's good advice or not from anybody because they're the ones that know and you can't tell him any different. You could talk forever and they would fight you these type of people I had in my life and I don't like people like that

    Dr Lori, do you know anything about " Journey necklaces" ? I have looked so hard online to find something comparable to what I found at a Salvation Army in 2014 in Round Rock TX. It has ivory tiles. It has been established that it is ivory. It has Chinese inscription on each tile ( not Mandarin) and it has a Budda posing in different poses on the other side of the tiles. My daughter is keeping it 1 person has told her it's worth $300 but it just looks really old and unusual to me. I know it's called a journey necklace but like I said, I can't find anything comparible ???

    Mark, I can help, but just need to see it to verify what you really have. For example is it really ivory? Please don't tell me you ruined it by "testing" with acid or something. I don't need those "tests". Bring it to one of my events so I can take a look. And who is this "1 person"? I can tell you what people are really paying!

    Most don't have my education, experience and most importantly ethics to tell you the truth about value :) There are so many mis-statements out there about antiques. Some are actually used to make you think your piece is not desirable (valuable) so they can get your valuables at bargain prices. Happy to help. I was in Atlanta a few months ago.
