The reserve is in the middle of the Praslin Island which is the second largest island in Seychelles, where the highest mountain, Fond Azore, rises to a height of 373 metres (1,224 ft). The Vallée De Mai is one of the world's smallest UNESCO World Heritage Site. The forest boasts unique flora and fauna. The famous inhabitants of the forest is of course the Coco de Mer- famous for its suggestive male inflorescence and double nut. The double nut is the largest and heaviest seed in the world. Other endemic palms at the Vallée de Mai are - Cabbage Palm (Palmiste), Stilt Palm, Thief Palm, Latanier Palm, and Latannyen milpat. The forest is also home to a variety of unique, endemic fauna - like the Seychelles Green day gecko, Seychelles Skink, the Seychelles Bulbul, and of course the rare Seychelles Black Parrot.
