Valheim is a brand new open world viking themed co-op survival RPG in which you must build, battle and conquer the lands of Valheim as part of your patronage to Valhalla, This game came out on Steam on the Second of February 2021 and at the time of recording this video, it was the day after release, strap in because this game has a nice mix of survival, boss fights and a good sense of progression that I think will appeal to a lot of people.
What do you think about Valheim? do you think it's the best survival game in years that appeals to fans of both Survival and RPGs or do you think it still needs work? let me know in the comments below!

--Valheim Steam Description--
ABOUT THIS GAME
A battle-slain warrior, the Valkyries have ferried your soul to Valheim, the tenth Norse world. Besieged by creatures of chaos and ancient enemies of the gods, you are the newest custodian of the primordial purgatory, tasked with slaying Odin’s ancient rivals and bringing order to Valheim.
Your trials begin at the disarmingly peaceful centre of Valheim, but the gods reward the brave and glory awaits. Venture forth through imposing forests and snow-capped mountains, explore and harvest more valuable materials to craft deadlier weapons, sturdier armor, viking strongholds and outposts. Build a mighty longship and sail the great oceans in search of exotic lands … but be wary of sailing too far...
Key features:
Huge procedurally-generated world - explore and inhabit mystical lands, from mysteriousforests to imposing snow-topped mountain ranges and stunning meadows, complete with their own creatures of legend to battle and wildlife to hunt.
Co-op PvE (2-10 players) - - Whether you want to brave the lands alone or venture with trusted allies, Valheim supports independent, player-hosted servers and unlimited world creation. We recommend playing co-op with 3-5 players.
Punishing dodge & block based combat system with a wide range of weapons
Build & sail ships - from flimsy rafts to imposing warships, build legendary vessels to conquer the seas and discover new lands.
Summon and defeat vengeful primordial bosses of myth and legend, and collect trophies to progress and craft new powerful items
Flexible house and base building system - raise mead halls, farms, settlements outposts, castles and more.
Intuitive item crafting - forge the finest weapons and armour, and craft food and mead.
Dedicated server- for players who want to run a persistent server. If you prefer not to run a server on your PC, consider renting a server at G-Portal.

It won't go out of windows (too small; smoke needs at least 3/4 of a 2x2 unit to go through) or open ground level doors (not above the fire). Most people end up taking damage from their first fires if they settle in one of the ruined houses because they're small and not high and only have tiny open triangles under the roofs -- through which, unlike irl, the smoke won't escape. If you remove the stamina from food then later choice of food just becomes what gives the most health. An archer focused player might want stew or whatnot which would give you 20 hp but 80 stamina while a warrior probably want the 80 hp and 20 stam food. The snapping tool is actually a +. You can use the "faulty" way it works to clip alot of things and make cool designs. If they were to force it into hard snapping then every building would just be a box. Honestly the only valid complain would be the low FPS, i experienced it once aswell.

  • @inpusket

I think he was trying to say remove the stamina consumption when you chop wood,or shovel the ground or mining.Let stamina be used only for running/jumping/fighting,wich i agree with totally. Also i dont agree with him in inventory weight,it pushes you to use boats/carts for transport and storage.

  • @NaionProductions

    @NaionProductions

    3 жыл бұрын

Exactly what I was thinking. I totally disagreed with the building system and stamina on gathering complaint. I even enjoy the weight management when gathering ores and having to bring it all the way to your base by a cart (no tp allowed), it helps with immersion and makes resources feel more important (I even had to construct a bridge over a river to bring my cart which I enjoyed). However when building, it can become pretty annoying having to go back and forth constantly. Maybe they could add a build item that increases the weight limit once inside your base? I would absolutely love it if they did that. Also while I'm at it on suggesting improvements in case they see this, here are some small n easy (-I think) fixes on the top of my head I think could only improve the game: * Making the character leaving the water less clunky and slow. * Allowing you to repair stuff with the hammer outside of crafting table (maybe with a small material penalty?). * Making it so when you hover with your mouse over effects and ability icons it shows details of what they do (I still have no idea what being cold, being rested, cozy does etc. and I'm too lazy to wiki it). * Making it so when playing on controller you can move forward while looking at the map and inventory like you can on keyboard. (maybe switch the analog stick you select stuff in your inventory with from the one you use to walk with, to the one you look around with? Or.. just make controller keybinds programmable in settings)

Eeh, I sort of agree with some of the points. Don't get me wrong, I love Valheim and me and my GFee have been playing it non-stop since release. The building system is good, but there are certainly many ways that it could be better. I very, very strongly disagree with people that claim that this game has the best building system out there. Combat while satisfying at moments, is extremely janky and flatout broken if the enemy you're trying to hit isn't in front of you at the same height. As for the food and stamina system, I quite like it. I just wish the rested buff would last a bit longer. ~20-25 minutes feels like a minute in Valheim ;P Then again, this is a game that from what I know is mostly developed by two people and some outsourced help here and there. I'm sure all of this will be improved upon given time.

Don't know if this will help anyone, but try to disable "Motion Blur" in settings, also drop shadows from High to Medium as they are resource intensive and don't really notice any difference between the two settings. Seriously, what is every gamedev's obsession with motion blur? It makes the game look objectively worse and eats the framerate.

@@lambree4947 Agreed. While it's a pretty neat initial system and I do like it, it absolutely needs more work. If you want to build a dock for your ship or a bridge across a river for your cart to haul stuff for example, you'll have an aneurysm trying to put down support beams in the water since building parts only snap on surfaces you actually see. Thus you'll have a hard time building support for your dock/bridge from top to bottom (building them from the water up I find to be less practical if you want to do it the snappy way and care about aesthetics), among other minor-ish issues I'm probably forgetting.

Welcome to the wonderful world of vikings. :) Valheim is definitely an awesome crafting survival game. I almost have 80 hours in it now. Their suggested number of players is 3, though you can go up to 10. Their roadmap hints at additions to building (and hopefully improvements to the entire building process), possibly a new set of enemies, an update to do with the sailing/sea aspect of the game, and a new biome so far. Suggested but uncertain updates include combat, moon phases, brigands, more unique locations, and a sandbox mode. 1: You're supposed to build a base in the meadows (the starting biome) first. :P Trolls, the harder greydwarfs, and skeletons only spawn in the black forest. And they spawn a lot more at night. You can also build a wall and dig a moat around your base preventing mobs from reaching your house. 2: It's better to immediately go for the karve boat. It's so much faster and just better it's insane. Plus it has 4 slots of storage. (since you can't bring ores through portals) 3: As shown in the trailer you can get a cart once you have bronze. It basically has a huge or maybe unlimited weight limit, though you walk slower and slower the heavier it gets. You can also get an item that increases your own weight limit by 150, though I won't spoil how. And 450 total feels just right to me. Though the limited personal slots still sucks. Maybe 1 extra row of slots would do the trick. Stamina management is a pain though, yea. And so is building. You're basically required to make a hoe to flatten the ground, and use a pickaxe to mine out places that have a higher elevation. Which is fine, but the world being a bit less bumpy would go a long way.

bought this with a couple of friends, a few days ago. 50hrs on clock now, 10+ hr days with all of us. Days are just a blur. This game captures what was AMAZING about runescape and wow back in the day. The sense of discovery. Wondering what the f*ck is this for, and then finding out. Adventuring and discovering a vast world full of danger. The progression is GREAT. What I hate about other survival/rpg games, is how tools, weapons and armor are consumable and can break for eternity. But in valheim, they cost a sh*t ton to make, but last forever. So finishing that troll leather set and getting it to R2 feels A-mazing. If the devs iron out the few bugs and desync issues in multiplayer, make the gear even more "diverse", and fix some mobs being INSANELY hard compared to what they are. Like dude the mosquito mobs 1 shot you. They are small insects that are nearly impossible to hit, that's so dumb. Another thing I'd like to see is more use for the cloak mechanic. I love how the wolf coat has it's unique effect of withstanding the cold. I'd love to see more of that. More cloaks you could wear with your armor depending on the challenge at hand. Like if you could make a waterproof cloak out of neck skin or something, to immune "wet". Wolf fur against frost and cold. The yak animals in plains could make you a cloak that made you resistant to mosquito bites. Valheim as an MMO is the game I wished "new world" could have been. Sadly they are chickening out on building, pvp, and survival elements to just make another cookie cutter MMO.
