I remember in kindergarten, the teacher every day at nap time would play music softly at her desk. I heard this song, and for years it played in my head. I didn't know the lyrics, other than the part where she sings "get closer". Finally, nearly 40 years later, I now know who does this song. I would hum it to people I knew. No one had any idea what song I was describing. I even called several radio stations. Nobody knew the song I was trying to find. I subscribed to YT music and by pure random luck, it played this song. No words could describe that moment. Finding this song opened a whole different world to me.

It's funny, when this song came out, I was 17 years old. "The Night" before was a smash but "Get closer" was and is the real gem. Brilliant.

A 55 anni se si e' nostalgici questa musica ti riempie il cuore di felicita' e rimpianti. A quel tempo non pensavo minimamente agli anni che sarebbero passati e mai piu' tornati. Al fatto straordinario che ero giovanissimo. E se il pensiero mi ha sfiorate qualche volta mi sembrava impossibile, lontanissimo anche solo divenire un trentenne. Oggi se potessi tornare ai miei 30 anni sarebbe un sogno .. Quanto e' strana la vita.

C'était le début de l'électro dance où pop/dance. Ensuite l'euro dance des 90's et ensuite le néant depuis l'an 2000. George Michael, Prince et Michael Jackson ne ratent rien malheureusement.

@@frankd.3035 I looked it up and your absolutely right. I didn't knew that. But for me it's only a little dissapointment. There also was another singer, named Simona Zanini, for this project. This fact was however never been showed on releases. Despite of that the project was very successful and it still gives me goosebumps.

Faut juste fermer les yeux et de se rappeler ce que notre enfance nous a laissé comme traces. Se laisser bercer par l'amour d'un père parti trop tôt. (j'ai encore le mien), mais je suis en froid avec toute ma famille. J'ai le cœur qui se soulève quand je pense à toi (mon papa d'amour), la musique et le refrain, me fait verser des larmes. Pourtant, nous avons vécu de très belles choses, comme de mauvaises choses, mais je te pardonne et je te demande aussi pardon 🙏. Je t'ai pardonner, mais je n'arrive pas à percer cette carapace qui entoure mon cœur pour te dire ce que je ressens pour toi. Je t'aime papa et je t'aimerai pour tout le restant de ta vie (82/83 ans) et pour le restant de ma vie 🤔. (fichu caractère de merde) 👍

I wouldn't sell these Italo-Disco vinyls for a million $$$, because it was the best decade of my life! ... but I would give a million $$$ to go back in time to live through this decade again!

Imagine driving your car and hearing this at night on the radio. We will never have awesome music like this in this day and age. All we have now is rap ,hiphop and obnoxiously loud edm. GREAT thanks

In middle of 80s San Remo fest was unicue that possible to listen in foreign West music culture. And that music one of best choice by people who writed TV program. And then 1991 came.

Ci sembrava tutto nuovo e si aveva voglia di stupirsi. Poi musicalmente ci fu un'esplosione di successi . In pratica ogni settimana usciva qualcosa di sufficientemente bello che ancora oggi ascoltiamo con piacere

I was 13 when Valerie started regularly appearing on the TV screen...she always used to act like a kind of dreamy child dancing in its own world... and I was soooo in love with her and her sublime voice!

Its not actually her voice - well not here or in The Night anyway. This is sung by Dora Carofiglio, a famous Italian singer.

@@RexRockoRegnat This is very interesting facts, I just don't understand the show biz. I mean, I'm just asking myself why the labels make fake singers go on stage while in truth someone else is doing the real job🤷🏻‍♂️? But unlike in the case of Milli Vanilli, where the case became a huge scandal after they won a Grammy and later they were revealed being fake singers, it seems that nobody bothered that Valerie Dore didn't sing there... However, I became curious about Dora Carfioglio and found some videos of her group Novecento; when I heard "The Only One" I immediately recognised her signature voice and thought it sounds very similar to "Get Closer", this is really weird. But on the other hand great, at least I have something new to discover (there always have been lots of Italian singers I appreciate, like Alice, Franco Battiato, or Angelo Branduardi... and many others)!

@@maval4537 the tradition of replacing the real singers with models is one that actually originated with Frank farian. He did it with Boney M in the 70s. There were plenty of Italo disco projects that did this, among them: - Radiorama, which featured two models, Antonella Ferri and Oscar Brandazzi, but actually featured several vocalists during its history, including Simona Zanini, Marco Bresciani, Elena Ferretti, Daniela Rando, and the two most well known are Clara Moroni and Mauro Farina (Farina also produced all the project’s tracks starting with Desire in 1985). - Joe Yellow (which was fronted by Domenico Ricchini, who also produced all his tracks, but actually lip synced the voices of Alberto Favata, Elio Messina and Mauro Farina. He did however sing his first records in the early 80s and also sang one of the JY pieces, Recollection in 1985). - Den Harrow (one of the most famous Italo disco projects, was fronted by Stefano Zandri, but actually had the voices of several singers, the most well known being American born Tom Hooker). - Fun Fun (which featured the voices of Antonella Pepe and Angela Parisi, who were accompanied by Ivana Spagna (who you might know for tracks like Call Me or Easy Lady) in earlier recordings. The project went through several models during its history, the first being Francesca Merola and Natalia Rolla, then Rolla was replaced by Roberta Selvelli, who was replaced again, this time by Elena Trastulli who lasted for the rest of the project. This was also frequently done with Eurobeat projects in the 90s and eurodance in the 90s too.

Grande nostalgia di anni stupendi. La dance italiana era fantastica e la bellissima Valerie era una delle migliori interpreti. Ho 52 anni e sono legatissimo a quelle musiche e a quegli anni!

Bellissima Valerie ? Boh ... se lo dici tu ... in questa canzone la voce è della si bellissima Dora Carofiglio in Nicolosi. Solo che non mi sembra nemmeno la voce della Dora ... boh ? Sarà qualche voce di qualche cantante allo sbaraglio presa per questa canzone.

@@nicolavivarelli4127 Dora Carofiglio è la migliore voce della musica italiana insieme ad Antonella Ruggero, degli ultimi 40 anni. Riguardo Valerie Dore, era li solo che ballava e muoveva le labbra su delle basi musicali dei Novecento dove si firmavano con altri progetti. Comunque Dora Carofiglio è una gran bella ragazza / donna, Valerie Dore impersonificata da Monica Stucchi, non è nei miei ideali di bellezza femminile, diciamo così.

Ce poco da commentare gli anni 80 hanno lasciato una traccia indelebile nel panorama della musica pop italiana. Da allora un grande vuoto. Che tristezza.....meno male che con internet anche le giovani leve possono godere di questa musica
