'Vale of Rheidol Railway' | Sunday July 21st 2019

Great Little Trains of Wales #2:
Our second railway visit to Wales entails the Vale of Rheidol Railway in Aberystwyth.
This 11 3/4 mile 2ft gauge line has since it's opening in 1902, been primarily a tourist line taking passengers from the coastal resort of Aberystwyth to the majestic water falls at Devils Bridge, high up in the Rheidol hills. After being amalgamated into the GWR in 1923, the lines 2-6-2 tank engines were rebuilt at Swindon works and gave us the bulky butch looking engines we know today.
The loco's served the line right into BR days and into the 1980's, when in 1989 the line was privatised and handed over to the preservationists who continue to run the line today!
On this particular Sunday, loco number 1213 'Prince of Wales' took charge of the service and we explore the wonderful scenery and stations along this fascinating line. Hope you enjoy!
