VACUUM FORMING SCI-FI FILM PROPS: LOW BUDGET FILMMAKING
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This week I tried my hand at Vacuum Forming. I have never done this process before, and I will walk you through my process of what I learned step by step. The goal is to make clean white Sci-Fi hand props. I try out a very affordable machine, a Dental Vacuum Former, on AMAZON for under $150.00. The result is encouraging.

10:00 - A heat gun or a hair dryer can be helpful in fixing those kinds of glitches, especially in areas that you know you don't need those kinds of glitches. Just be sure to turn on the vacuum and try to heat that area evenly. You may also need some work gloves so you can use your fingers to apply pressure to those glitches to make sure they smooth out as the vacuum pulls it.
Love what your doing
Hehe! Loving this channel more and more! I’ve been catching up on all the old videos, rewatching a few of them several times, and can safely say there are no other channels on KZread that are as fun, as honest, as informative and as all-encompassing. Nobody else covers such a wide variety of useful stuff! Mr F - you’re a star - now keep chuckling, keep making videos, and keep on helping to make sci-fi 😎👍
Great to watch you develop a new skill Anthony! Great video as always.
That turned out great!
Brilliant video Anthony. The prop looks great, it's cool knowing you can make a pristine white prop using this technique. I can't wait to watch more of your prop videos leading up to your new short film bud.
So cool
Nice work Mandingo! I look forward to your foray into flexible filament and resins for your future prop builds.
Great video Anthony, definitely one of your best. A lot of trial and error but the end result was worth all the effort. I'm looking forward to seeing what other props you will create with this method in the future. Well done!
Awesome video.
Cool tips, I like how it turned out, more refined and high tech compared to version one, good choice!
Anthony, I would love to build with you sometime. You seem like a really chill dude.
There seems to be so much 'problem' solving in art! You could assume problem solving is something more likely to be done by engineers, science guys etc, but it seems an integral part of your work. It's enjoyable hearing your thought process of how you approach problems.
that came out well. you might try increasing the draft angle on the buck and having a hole in the back you can screw a handle into to pull it out easier. it's sure a pain when you accidentally break a pulled piece trying to get the buck out! lol
REALLY ENJOYED THIS VIDEO.....

love to hear that
The outer part of the ear is called the auricle. Great video!
This is a great video. Seeing the vacuum former in action is interesting. Apparently, Tamiya Airbrush cleaner costs about 1/3rd the price of the liquid glue and is basically the same stuff (within 1%). Luke Towan high-lighted this in a recent Bolder Creek video.
Love your sci fi props channel. I was wondering if you could make an arm sleeve that you could put your cell phone and possibly led lights to use apps that simulate an arm control panel for weapons or maybe a force field creator. Made a full spacesuit with helmet and would love a sleeve that can be interactive. I'll leave it to your imagination. Thanks
man, this was a great little Vacuum Forming machine! Awesome project!

Yeah it’s super handy
Great video as always. How about screwing a cup holder hook into the bottom of your buck after you have formed the plastic? Would give you a handle on the bottom side without damaging your working surface.
Nice. It’s white now. But you gotta weather it
Cool a " Quantum Universal Intergalactic Ear Translator". AKA a quiet puck.
Hi! The startch can also fit another purpose: sometimes, pockets of air can form on flat surfaces, and because these are sealed by surrounding edges, they can't be sucked out by the air pump. Starch (or baby powder) create a porous surface allowing the air trapped inside the bubble getting extracted by the vacuum pump. It seems you didn't experience this issue, but i did when making canopies. A better way to deal with this specific issue (especially when making canopies): using an airgun, to blow the bubble around edges where it could be sucked. All i have is a pretty weak airbrush compressor, and it wasn't powerfull enough though.
I'm also curious how the vacuform plastic takes to your normal weathering techniques, going for something Alienesc maybe with a WU logo.
I was checking out Micro Mark. There machine is the same kind you have. $124. 00 dollars and plus $7.00 dollars shipping. I think i have bought just about some net stuff from them back then. Except for the machine. Lol
What I find frustrating in the process of trying a couple of time and getting somewhere, you get to the point where you think 'awsome! That is it!'. Then time to do the second part and not being able to get it as right as the 1st successful attempt
Awesome. I hate that KZread doesn't alert me to all of your videos, even after to subscribing and selecting ALL.
Yeah I'll echo what others have said, typical draft angle for the bucks is 5% or more if don't want it effecting the actual part make the buck taller and make the draft angle largest in that area then cut it down to size.
Can you do a tf2 scout bat thats safe to bring to a con and or maybe the scater gun?
Turn off the heater before you turn on the vacuum... so you don't blow a breaker... And if you swing the heater left and right slowly it might heat more evenly... try it.
Are transparent sheets in color available? I couldn't find any.
How much did it cost to make the film Aeranger and how much did you sell it for
👍
Voicing "doing air quote" 😀
You refer to the material thickness as say 3 thousandths. Did you mean thirty-thousandths?
12:28 ITALIAN?
Looks like a smoke alarm
