V8 Tracker

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

1992 Geo Tracker powered by a Ford 302. Aluminum heads, manifold, radiator and water pump make the engine about a 100 lbs. heavier than stock. 325 HP, C4 automatic and stock rear end (4:62 gears) with a spool.

I'm impressed that you were able to fit a V8 in that small engine compartment. Also, anything that can put wanna-by racer types in their place gets my approval.

First off, mines a 2WD. I used universal mounts from Summit. I also had to have a custom drive shaft made. If your planning on a V8 4WD I don't think it's possible. The trac/kick's are too short. Unless you have a 4 dr. You'd have to use a GM tranny / xfer case and there would be no room for the rear drive shaft. Converting a 4WD tracker to 2WD could be done easily enough. If this is your intent, your 305 would slip right in. Use a TH 350, a short water pump and a Griffin radiator slid fwd.

Yeah the best that can be done for 4WD is the 2.7 V6 out of the later model Grand Vitara. But that 185 HP is still wicked enough although sounds more like a chainsaw. There is a YT video of it. Also there's a YT video of a one with the V6 from the Camaro but only 2WD.

It's hard to tell in the vid but if that is the original radiator that engine is going to overheat very fast, there is not enough surface area on that radiator to cool that thing.

My Ford Mustang did the same thing. It was always cutting off on me. Instead of a Ford V8, how about a Chevy V6 4.3L Vortec engine. I wonder how they compare to each other. I have a 1998 Chevy Tracker with an original 16 valve 4 cylinder engine and automatic transmission. Almost every time I come up to a traffic light, someone in another SUV, JEEP or Ford F150 wants to show their stuff by trying to race. They see a little 4 banger. What they don't realize is my Tracker's power to weight ratio is much better than what they have. My Tracker only weights about 1500 pounds. In almost every case I beat them with very little effort. They usually turn off on to a side road. Anyhow, I wouldn't mind converting to a V6 engine but I wonder if it is worth it (as far as increased power without adding a lot of weight). I'm surprised that the V8 fits in the engine bay area.

it takes quite a bit of work to fit that engine into that truck. do you think the engine mounts line up? how about the instrument cluster? and the th170 transmission that the geo came with is no where to be found... it is a lot of work i am sure.. p.s. i have raced is scca before too, and it still takes a lot of work..

I'm one of those people that like all makes and brands of cars and I agree on the crate motor in a 32 Ford thing. If you have the money and skill to build a 32,and if you build a 32 you like Fords so why not use Ford power

dave chapman The GM engine was of a completely different design than the Ford. You're also forgetting to mention that the 302 offered in the Camaro was designed soley for racing purposes in certain races where engine displacement was limited to 305 cubic inches. The Ford 302 was not designed to be a racing motor, but rather as a step up from the Thriftpower I6 and replaced the 289. The 351W and 427(in the Shelby versions) were the real racers in the Ford engine lineup.

So let's make sure I have this right, you put a Ford 302 in a 2WD '92 Geo Tracker... You probably couldn't cram that engine in to it if it had a front drive train. Spooling it and then trying to do a burn out is just stupid, the trans just isn't going to convert that much torque. I could see doing this for kicks on something with a bagged out engine but this has to be a new level of ricing, taking actual parts and assembling them in a way that makes them more useless. Brilliant!
